2018 NFL Offensive Rookie Of The Year – Betting Odds [Updated]
With four weeks of the regular season finished, the odds to win Offensive Rookie of the Year have been shaken up quite a bit. Two rookie quarterbacks have taken over starting jobs from veterans in both Cleveland and Arizona, and other skill position players have emerged. Let’s look at the update odds at SportsBetting.ag.
2018 Offensive Rookie of the Year Betting Odds
- Baker Mayfield +100
- Sam Darnold +400
- Saquon Barkley +500
- Calvin Ridley +600
- Sonny Michel +1000
- Josh Rosen +1400
- Kerryon Johnson +1400
- Josh Allen +2500
- Courtland Sutton +3300
- Phillip Lindsay +3300
- Royce Freeman +3300
- Nick Chubb +5000
- Lamar Jackson +8000
Mr. Mayfield +100
Let’s be real – Baker Mayfield should have been starting since day one in Cleveland. It took a concussion to Tyrod Taylor (along with his horrific play) for him to get into the game. Mayfield is a leader, and the Browns are a far better team than most realize. They continue to be held back by poor coaching. Still, I am not sure he’s a great deal at even money.
We’re just four weeks into the season. Lots of things can happen. The Browns could still end up being one of the league’s worst teams. Mayfield may get hurt. He may get benched because Cleveland’s coaching staff is inept. He also may just not play well enough to win ROY. He was a much better value at +500 a few weeks ago or before the season started.
Sam Darnold +400
I mentioned Sam Darnold as my favorite pick for Offensive Rookie of the Year early in the year and did take him at +600, that price looks far worse now but did look a lot better when he was +200 after the Jets 1-1 start. Still, New York is 1-3 in a tough division. Darnold will have to have a fantastic statistical season the rest of the year to even be in the conversation for Offensive Rookie with the Jets likely to finish at the bottom of the conference.
Saquon Barkley +500
I initially thought Barkley wasn’t worth a bet, as his odds were much lower, around +300 to start the season. However, after four weeks – Barkley’s usage is ridiculous. The Giants won’t make the playoffs, and they are indeed a bad team, but if he continues to be used in this matter and Mayfield doesn’t impress statistically – there is upside here.
Barkley has scored a touchdown in all but one week of the season, and he’s averaged over 100 yards a game in four games. He’s been particularly active in the receiving game where he’s already notched 27 receptions on the season. I love the value you can get with Barkley in this offense that wants to take the ball out of Eli Manning’s hands and rely on short throws. He could easily end up having one of the best or the best statistical seasons for a rookie running back in history. Regardless of New York’s place in the standings, that has value.
