ACC College Basketball Tournament Betting Odds And Picks

The NCAA Basketball regular season is over. And the 2020 ACC Conference Tournament starts on Tuesday afternoon. We will take a look at how each school looks coming into the tournament and their betting odds to win, according to MyBookie.ag:

You may notice that Georgia Tech is not listed. That’s because the Yellow Jackets have been suspended from the ACC Tournament as part of their sanctions that were handed down last fall. The Yellow Jackets finished fifth in the league this season.

Eliminate Some Teams From The Start

Since the league expanded to 15 teams, no ACC team that has played on the first day has ever won the tournament. So Wake Forest, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, and North Carolina can all be dismissed. You can throw Miami in there with them as well.

North Carolina has the talent to be the first team ever make this run, but everyone is going to need to be healthy (Brandon Robinson) and playing out of their minds. They have a lottery pick in Cole Anthony leading the way, and the +5500 is tempting, but there are better options.

The Favorites To Win The ACC Tournament

The Overwhelming Favorite: Duke (+115)

The Duke Blue Devils being the favorite is interesting simply because they didn’t finish first in the league and lost three of their final six games to close the season.

However, Coach Mike Krzyzewski has won 11 ACC tournaments since the year 2000 and will be playing in front of a large Duke contingent as the tournament is being held in Greensboro, NC. The Blue Devils boast the best big man in the league in Vernon Carey Jr. as well as the best point guard in Tre Jones.

Cardinals (+260) Are Hit Or Miss

The Louisville Cardinals is a team that has the talent to pull this off. But, they have been incredibly bipolar this season and are also not playing their best basketball at the moment. They have lost four of their final seven games. The Cardinals have the best player in the ACC in Jordan Nwora, but you never know what you are going to get from their supporting cast.

There have been instances when they look like a National Championship-caliber team, but then there have been times like Saturday when Virginia completely shut them down.

Value In Virginia (+800)

Speaking of last season’s national champion, Virginia might be the team to bet on here. The Cavaliers are a tremendous value at +800. Out of all the teams in this tournament, they are the only team that is currently playing their best basketball of the season. The Cavaliers have won eight games in a row and have shut down Duke, Louisville, and Notre Dame in recent weeks.

They are also led by a quartet of players who were a big part of last year’s national title-winning team.

A Team To Consider: Florida State (+350)

Florida State is the final team you should consider, and with good reason, as the Seminoles won the ACC regular-season title this year. They have a fantastic backcourt in Devin Vassell and Trent Forrest, who are both as good on the defensive end as they are on the offensive end.

The Seminoles also have a future lottery pick in forward, Patrick Williams, who has come of age in the last few weeks of the season. They can shoot, they can defend, they are experienced, and they are well-coached. 

The Rest Of The ACC Teams In Contention

Notre Dame, Syracuse, Clemson, and North Carolina State are all way too inconsistent to warrant placing a wager on them. I would rather lose with Virginia than go through the emotional rollercoaster of putting my money in the hands of Kevin Keatts and the Wolfpack.

Remember, every team is playing for their shot at being in March Madness and their shot at the Championship title.

The 2020 ACC Tournament Picks To Bet On

I am going to spread it around a little bit. Virginia and Florida State are going to each get a taste. I hope the Cavaliers continue to play excellent basketball. Virginia also has a beautiful path to the title game as it is on the side of the bracket with Louisville, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Boston College, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech. 

Virginia defeated each of those teams (with the exception of Syracuse) in its winning streak that ended the season. There is little value in the Duke number, but as stated above, Krzyzewski wins this tournament often.
