The Breeders’ Cup Classic will take place this Saturday, Nov 3 at Churchill Downs, Louisville, Kentucky. The annual race doesn’t get quite the ink of the Triple Crown races but is still a significant event on the thoroughbred racing calendar. The race has a prize pool of $6 million for competitors, and there is expected to be around $20 million in betting handle wagered at the Santa Anita Park, alone. A lot more will be wagered at other tracks, betting kiosks across the country, and at online racebooks.
Breeders’ Cup 2018 Odds To Win
Accelerate is the odds-on favorite to win the Breeders’ Cup at +250. The horse has won five out of its last six races and finished top-3 in its previous seven. He will go against the best of the best in the Classic.
There are plenty of horses with long odds to win, with six horses going off at 10-1 or higher.
One of the horses who stands out to us is McKinzie who won a Grade 1 Pennsylvania Derby, a massive step towards his chances of winning the Classic. He easily cruised to the victory. His 107 Beyer speed figure tied Justify which was the highest for any 3-year-old horse this year. This horse is undervalued in the current market and is an excellent bet at +600.
As far as longshots go, our favorite bet is Discreet Lover at +2000. Not only do we love the name of the horse, but there’s some information to back up this selection. He shocked with a victory in the Jockey Gold Cup and by many accounts is one of the fittest horses in the race. The horse has a great underdog story. We like him as our longshot play to win the Classic.
