College Football Playoff National Championship Preview: Alabama vs Georgia Prediction

After Alabama beat up on Clemson and Georgia rallied late against Oklahoma to force overtime and earned a victory in the extra period – we have an all-SEC College Football Final. The game is set for Monday, Jan. 8, and will be played at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, which is the home of the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. Kickoff is at 8 PM EST and will be nationally televised on ESPN.

Alabama Crimson Tide – Roll Tide, Roll

Bama and their fans got sweet revenge on the Tigers after losing to them in last year’s National Championship in a 35-31 shootout. The Crimson Tide dominated Clemson by a score of 24-6 in a game that seemed to never be in doubt for Alabama at the Sugar Bowl. The victory put them back in the win column after losing their last game to Auburn. Alabama finishes with a 12-1 record as they go into College Football Championship.

Georgia Bulldogs – Battling Bulldogs

Georgia found themselves in an early hole against Oklahoma but rallied in the second half to force overtime in what was a high scoring affair. Both teams settled for field goals in the first overtime, but Georgia notched a touchdown on their first possession of the second overtime. Sooners’ quarterback, Baker Mayfield, then threw an interception to end the game by a final score of 54-48. The Bulldogs finish the season with a 13-1 record and an SEC Championship which they got by beating the Auburn Tigers by a score of 28-7 on 12/02/17.

The odds opened with Alabama as a -4.5 favorite over Georgia. It hasn’t moved a lot since opening, but many sportsbooks have the Crimson Tide at -4. Tickets wise, bettors have slightly favored Alabama over the underdog, Bulldogs. The total opened at 45 points and has seen split action on the over and under. Some sportsbooks have the number at 44.5, but most are still sitting at 45 points. It’s a low total based on the scoring we’ve seen so far in Bowl action, but let’s remember these teams have two excellent defenses.
