When the Detroit Lions hired head coach Matt Patricia, they were looking to implement a winning mentality, just like the one he had with the New England Patriots.
But after one season, Patricia’s job might be in jeopardy if his team doesn’t perform a lot better than last year.

Poor offense
Detroit improved to be a top ten defensive unit in 2018 but regressed on offense.
QB Matthew Stafford had one of the shyest seasons of his career and never felt comfortable under center. Stafford needs to be a lot better if the Lions want to have a shot on this division.

On defense, the team gave a lot of dollars to DE Trey Flowers, who was coached by Patricia when both were with the Patriots.

Detroit had nine draft selections in 2019 and used them to add four offensive and five defensive players.
All Eyes On New Offensive End
All eyes will be on TE T. J. Hockenson from Iowa, who was selected with the 8th pick in the first round of the NFL draft.
There are also some good reviews about DE Austin Bryant from Clemson, picked in the fourth round with the 117th selection.
Detroit Lions 2019 Schedule And Divisional Competition
The Lions are scheduled to face the NFC East division along the AFC West this year. Those two divisions include four teams that made the playoffs last season.
Detroit also has to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Arizona Cardinals as the other two opponents outside their division.
In fact, they will open the season against the Cards on a Sunday afternoon matchup in Arizona.
Complicated Games Outside of Division
Detroit has just one primetime game in their schedule and is a Monday Night Football meeting at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers in week six. That divisional matchup on national television comes after the team’s bye in week five.
The Lions’ most complicated games outside the division will be a visit to Philadelphia in week three and hosting Kansas City in week four. But also visiting Denver in week 16.
