Downtown Las Vegas Monday Night Football Trip Report

William hill sportsbook in Las VegasMy wife and I are Carolina Panthers fans. I’ve been one since the team’s second year in existence. It comes from betting the Panthers as three-point home underdogs in the 1996 playoffs against the Cowboys. The Panthers were 8-0 at home that year and made it 9-0 for the largest win of my life at the time.

I’ve suffered through some awful seasons since then. Now that the Panthers aren’t perennial losers, the team ends up with a few primetime games each season. My wife and I go out and watch most of them.

The Carolina Panthers hosted the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football this week. SBS Joe was in town. He wanted to watch the game at the Wynn sportsbook. Downtown is more our style, so we went down there.

Joe found value in Dolphins +10 and the money line at +320. He lost both bets. I couldn’t justify laying a bunch of points on the Panthers, even when it dropped down to -8 before kickoff, so we just cheered for the Panthers as fans.

First Half on Monday Night Football at Plaza

William Hill sportsbook at the PlazaWe watched the first half of Monday Night Football at Plaza. William Hill operates the sportsbook. It is probably the nicest William Hill sportsbook. That is not saying much as many William Hill books in Las Vegas are basically just betting shops with a few televisions and some chairs.

The sportsbook was not at all busy. There were dozens of empty seats and several unoccupied bar-top tables when we arrived.

The book at the Plaza is about average when compared to most in Las Vegas. It is larger than most, making it so that there is usually a seat available, even for those that arrive late. Its televisions appear to date back to the full remodel of the property in 2010.

The Plaza sportsbook permits smoking. Drink tickets are not available.

One plus of the Plaza sportsbook is that the drink prices are reasonable. It offers several draft beers, including hard cider, something my wife has a hard time finding when going downtown. Joe chose a draft IPA. The negative is that the sportsbook did not have a waitress. Each drink required a trip to the bar just outside of the sportsbook.

Moved to Golden Nugget at Halftime

We decided to move to the Golden Gate sportsbook at halftime. There was a booth available when we arrived. Golden Nugget has drink service right at the tables. Unlike Plaza, the sportsbook at Golden Nugget is nonsmoking. There are signs on all tables reminding patrons of this policy, which includes vaping.

laughing at Joe's misfortuneI ordered a burger from the grill next to the sportsbook and enjoyed a couple of Tito’s and club sodas. My wife had to move to Malibu and Coke, as Golden Nugget did not have any hard ciders. SBS Joe joined her in the drink choice.

LOL Dolphins

The Carolina Panthers ended up blowing out the Miami Dolphins, easily covering the point spread. It was a fun game to watch from the point of view of a Panthers fan. I imagine the people holding Panthers betting slips were also thrilled. Joe wasn’t happy about his losses, but he knew what he was getting into hanging out with a couple of Panthers fans for Monday Night Football.
