For over a year now, retired boxer, Floyd “Money” Mayweather, and current UFC Star, Conor McGregor have been trading verbal barbs with both speculating over a multi-million dollar fight. There was once rumored talk of Floyd taking on McGregor in an MMA match, but as talks have progressed between the two, it’s become clear that if this fight is going to happen, it’s going to be in the squared circle and not the Octagon.

How Close Are They?
However, the fight is now more likely than ever. Mayweather has already stated that a match against McGregor is the only thing that will get him out of retirement. The payday for both fighters will be huge, and the Irish UFC star is dead set on facing Mayweather.
He stated over the weekend at a Q&A session in Manchester that he’s “One-hundred percent,” on Mayweather being his next fight. He went on to say, “I believe the next time I step into a combat arena will be through the ropes wearing 10-ounce or eight-ounce gloves. I believe so.”
Mayweather also told Sky Sports on Saturday that, “Most likely the fight between me and Conor McGregor will happen.” It’s truly the only chance that the now 40-year-old and currently retired boxer has of getting back into the ring.
Betting Odds
There is some speculation of what the betting odds would be if McGregor and Mayweather did face off in a boxing match. One offshore sportsbook has already offered a betting market on the still to be finalized bout.
At Bovada.lv (Full Review), they have installed Mayweather as a -1400 favorite over McGregor who is currently listed as a +750 underdog. These may seem like long odds to those who have been following McGregor’s MMA dominance, but let’s remember, this is a boxing match.
Mayweather is debatably, the best boxer of all time. Yes, he’s 40 years old, but he is justifiably a large favorite over talented MMA fighter, but one with little experience as a boxer, especially compared to a legendary fighter. Many boxing analysts have suggested that McGregor would have trouble with a journeyman fighter, let alone one who is one of the best to lace up the gloves.
Let’s hope his fight gets done so bettors and fans alike can both find out.
