CODE OF HONOR (+160)
- Pros: Trainer Shug McGaughey discovered the key to keeping Code of Honor happy and winning is to space out his races. Code of Honor was the convincing winner of the Travers (G1) and appears the strongest of the 3-year-olds in here.
- Cons: Code of Honor enters the Jockey Club Gold Cup off a lifetime-best effort in the Travers. His speed figure jumped 15 points. Often, this is a sign that a horse might regress next time out.
- The Play: This is the time of year when the later-maturing 3-year-olds put it all together. Code of Honor is getting good at the right time. Use on top and underneath.
TACITUS (+250)
- Pros: Tacitus has never run a bad race, but he rarely gets the win. The ten-furlongs is right up his alley, and trainer Bill Mott captured back-to-back editions of the Jockey Club Gold Cup in 2012 – 2013.
- Cons: Tacitus has been facing some very good horses, but still comes up short. He finished second in the Travers behind Code of Honor, and that one beat him 3/4-length for second place in the Kentucky Derby.
- The Play: Nice horse, but doesn’t always deliver. Use underneath.

- Pros: Vino Rosso has hit the board in 8 of 13-lifetime starts while facing top company. His races are spaced, and he enters the Jockey Club Gold Cup fresh.
- Cons: Will the real Vino Rosso please stand up? This horse is a real mystery. He’s never strung two wins together, and lately, has a good/bad race cycle going, leading up to a “good”.
- The Play: Vino Rosso will likely clunk up for a minor award. If you like his good/bad race cycle and like to play those types, toss a couple of bucks on him to win for the fun of it. Otherwise, play underneath or toss.

- Pros: Talk about a late developer. This 6-year-old has captured three of his last four starts, including the Woodward (G1) and Belmont’s Suburban (G2).
- Cons: It’s hard to knock this old warrior. He can win from off the pace or on the lead. He’s the best of the older horses and has to be considered a division leader.
- The Play: Use on top and underneath.

- Pros: The Bob Hess, Jr. trainee has won three of four-lifetime starts by a combined margin of 7 1/4-lengths. His speed figures are improving, and he owns the highest late-pace speed figure in the field.
- Cons: Those three of four-lifetime starts were against maidens and claiming horses. He’s had a steady diet of sprint races, and never raced beyond 1 1/16-miles.
- The Play: Toss
