The NFL playoffs are here. Some bettors decide that the timing is right to get into NFL futures action. This is a wager where a bettor picks the team he thinks will win the Super Bowl. While it may be fun to pick a team or two to cheer for in the playoffs, there is a big reason why you should avoid that type of action.

The house edge on futures bets is much higher than typical straight wagers. All books take at least 11% of the prize pool. Some houses take more than 30 percent. You may find that there is more value in betting the money line on your favorite team and parlaying it all the way to the Super Bowl.

Where to make your NFL futures wager

The house edge is a great starting point for finding the best sportsbook for your NFL futures bet. That may not always mean that your team has the best price there. Some sportsbooks may offer a higher price on the long shots and a lower payout on the favorites. Some may choose to price the teams the other way around.
