Roger Goodell’s Involvement – at BetOnline
Roger Goodell – Ceremony No Show
- Yes: +2500
- No: -10,000
Roger Goodell – Gets Booed
- Yes: -800
- No: +500
Roger Goodell once had a close relationship with New England and Robert Kraft, but after the “Deflategate” and Brady’s suspension – things got a little sour. The Patriots have bounced back. Obviously, they’re in the Super Bowl, but Roger and Robert aren’t exactly best buds anymore. Goodell also doesn’t think handing Brady the Lombardi Trophy, should New England win the game, would be awkward.
If you truly believe that Goodell will punk out of the ceremony if the Patriots should win, well, you stand to make a lot of money if you’re right at +2500. I don’t think there’s much of a chance he doesn’t show, regardless of who wins tomorrow’s game. Even with the high payout chance, I don’t think this one is worth a stab.
I don’t like to lay -800, but Goodell getting booed is assured in my mind. He’s as unlikable as any commissioner in professional sports history and was booed throughout the day at this year’s NFL Draft. He wasn’t booed for any particular reason that I can guess, other than being Roger Goodell.
POTUS Twitter vs. Super Bowl Touchdowns
Donald Trump Tweets on 2/5: -200
Touchdowns in Super Bowl LI: +160
Total Tweets on Super Bowl Sunday
- Over 7.5 Tweets -120
- Under 7.5 Tweets -110
Donald Trump sure likes Twitter! The bookies at BetOnline have noticed, and they’re offering many betting markets relating to Trump’s tweets in relation to the big game. The above two stuck out to me as interesting options.
Since Trump has been in office, he’s toned down his tweeting a bit. Sunday isn’t a work day, and it will be curious to see how he treats Super Bowl Sunday as POTUS. If his recent tweets are any indication, it looks like he’s tweeting about 4-5 times a day, even during the business week. It’s reasonable that he may not have much to say on Super Bowl Sunday, but then again, who knows?
I like the under on his tweets on Sunday, and we can pay just -110 juice, instead of the -120 on the over. The line may also be playing off the public perception of Trump, as well, that he’s a maniac that can’t stay away from Twitter. While that might have been the case in the campaign, he’s been notably less active since sitting in the Oval Office.
The total currently stands at 58.5. That’s the highest projected oddsmaker total for a Super Bowl in history. Scoring shouldn’t be a problem in this game, and it’s one we could easily see six or more touchdowns.
Touchdowns in Super Bowl LI look far more appetizing at +160 than Trump’s total tweets at -200. One could make the case that these markets should be closer to a coin flip.
Lady Gaga’s Halftime Show – at BetOnline
Headgear
- Hat/Cap/Any other headgear: +180
- Naked Head: -225
Method of Communication
- Handheld Microphone: +140
- Headpiece: -170
As a sports betting writer and bettor, pop music isn’t exactly an area where I’m particularly knowledgeable. Lady Gaga is known for her unusual performance attire in the past, but it appears in recent years, she has toned down her act a bit.
Let’s be clear, both bets are for the beginning or start of the performance. If Gaga walks out with a hat on and headpiece when she starts the show, that’s all that matters. If she changes outfits or microphones after that – it doesn’t matter. The bet is settled when she first walks out on stage to start the show.
It’s the song that Lady Gaga starts with that may be the deciding factor if she goes with a handheld microphone or a headpiece. Headpiece is the odds on favorite, but if she starts with a slower song, it won’t shock me to see the handheld microphone out there. At +140, this bet makes sense, especially if word gets out what type of song she might sing first.
As far as headgear, there might not be much to go on here. Naked head at -225 seems like one of the better bets when it comes to the novelty prop market. Since Gaga went away from her extreme image, she’s come out sans headgear in most of her performances, dating back to 2015.
