There is some added pressure for Yair Rodriguez in this fight. He will be in front of his home crowd and expected to deliver a win. Rodriguez’s 12-2 record is impressive right until you start breaking it down.

The competition for Yair hasn’t been the best since he entered the UFC in 2014. Rodriguez hasn’t fought in 2019, and his last outing was a KO/TKO win over Chan Sung Jung in 2018.

Before facing Sung Jung, he recorded a loss to Frankie Edgar after going down via KO/TKO in the second round. Edgar is the only legitimate challenge Rodriguez has on his resume.

What About Stephens?

Jeremy Stephens is coming off two straight losses. Yet, the oddsmakers at MyBookie.ag are giving him a 55% implied probability to make this bet a winner.

Stephens lost his last two fights against fierce competition like Jose Aldo and Zabit Magomedsharipov.

The American is one of the most powerful strikers in his division. He can end a fight with just a quick punch.

Keep in mind Rodriguez was somewhat lucky in his last fight against Sun Jung. The Mexican slugging defense cannot be considered above average after watching how many blows the Korean Sun Jung landed. Against a fighter like Stephens that will be suicidal.

Carla Esparza (14-6-0) vs. Alexa Grasso (10-2-0)

Bet On Esparza vs. Grasso At MyBookie.ag

The co-main event will have veteran Carla Esparza vs. the Mexican Alexa Grasso going at it in a women’s strawweight contest.

It’s a similar situation to the main event. The local Grasso is making a name for herself while Esparza is an experienced veteran with a vast repertoire of moves.

Grasso is more of a slugger and will look to make the fight a striking exhibition, but that’s not what works for Esparza.

Carla is a pure wrestler that loves to make her opponents desperate with a lot of grappling moves. Alexa has never won via submission. It’s not her game.

Brandon Moreno (14-5-0) vs. Askar Askarov (10-0-0)

Bet On Moreno vs. Askarov At MyBookie.ag

The last two times Brandon Moreno stepped on a UFC Octagon he ended losing via unanimous decision. Moreno’s last fight was a win against Maikel Perez, but it was on a Legacy Fighting Alliance contest.

Askar Askarov will make his UFC debut in Mexico. The Russian is undefeated with a 10-0 record, but most of those fights were local events in Russia.

Either way, Askarov is a choking artist. Four of his last five wins came via different types of choking moves.

From the three top fights at the UFC Fight Night 159, Askarov is the biggest favorite at -170. That should tell us enough about what to expect in this one.
