Former UFC interim lightweight champ Dustin Poirier is ready to clash against Dan Hooker in the UFC Fight Night headliner this weekend.
The event will be on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas and will be broadcasted by ESPN 12. Besides the main fight between Poirier and Hooker, there are some other solid contests to bet on Mixed Martial Arts this weekend.
Let’s breakdown the best for this weekend:
Dustin Poirier Vs. Dan Hooker
Poirier enters this fight after a loss against Khabib Nurmagomedov in his last outing. But, let’s be real, everybody has been decimated by Khabib as of late. The loss cut a four-fights win streak for Poirier.
Dustin Poirier jumps as the favorite at -220. There is no surprise here. His resume is extensive, and he can win fights with different styles. Two of his last four wins were via TKO, one via submission and one by decision.
Dan Hooker comes into this event with three straight wins. His last victory was over Paul Felder early in February in a Fight Night event in New Zealand. Hooker is not a massive name in the division. He’s known, but to make a real splash, he needs to beat guys like Dustin Poirier.
Hooker has been knocked out just once in his UFC career. Edson Barboza earned a win with a KO win after a substantial blow to the body. But I see Dustin Poirier winning this fight before the distance. He’s aggressive and a much better fighter overall.
Our Poirier Vs. Hooker Pick:
Bet Dustin Poirier -220 At MyBookie
Mike Perry vs. Mickey Gall
Things haven’t been great for Mike Perry lately. He has lost three of his last four outings, including his last two fights. In December, Geoff Neal finished him after over a minute of the fight with a brutal kick to the head, followed by a set of solid punches.
Mickey Gall doesn’t have much of a resume in the UFC with only eight fights since entering in 2015. Despite his boxing background, he hasn’t won a contest via TKO in his short career. Gall also trains Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling. Patience and a slow pace might be his best chance for an upset.
I don’t love picking only favorites, but Mike Perry should bounce back from his recent losses. Mickey Gall lacks power in his punches to keep Perry away. Perry should take the W here.
Our Perry Vs. Gall Pick:
Bet Mike Perry -320 At MyBookie
Brendan Allen Vs. Kyle Daukaus
The fight between Brendan Allen and Kyle Daukaus is intriguing. Allen is the clear favorite at -290, but both are young guys trying to make a name for themselves.
Brendan Allen is a big favorite because he’s riding a six-game winning streak, including wins over Tom Breese and Kevin Holland. He loves takedowns and finishing things on the floor.
Kyle Daukaus is 9-0 on his MMA career and the Cage Fury FC middleweight champion. He’s a dangerous fighter. If Allen doesn’t finish him early or doesn’t take him seriously, things could get ugly.
There’s a prop bet at MyBookie about the fight finishing with a submission win at +170. That’s the best bet available.
If I have to go with one of the two fighters, Brendan Allen makes the most sense.
Our Allen Vs. Daukaus Pick:
Bet Brendan Allen -290 At MyBookie
Gian Villante Vs. Maurice Greene
Early in the night, we will see a battle of heavyweights between Maurice Greene and Gian Villante. Green is the favorite at -235 at MyBookie, although he comes to this fight with two losses in a row, including one this year against Aleksei Oleinik.
Gian Villante hasn’t fought in over a year and a half. His last outing was in February 2019 when he lost to Michał Oleksiejczuk.
More than a year without fighting is a little too long for my comfort. I have to go with Maurice Greene here.
Our Villante Vs. Greene Pick:
Bet Maurice Greene -235 At MyBookie
Luis Peña Vs. Khama Worthy
The preliminary card’s best contest will have Luis Peña trying to win his second fight this year.
Khama Worthy is on a six-fight win streak, but his last outing was almost a year ago when he beat Devonte Smith as a +650 underdog.
Worthy is a dangerous fighter. At +215, I like his chances against Peña. Luis is not a great finisher, and Khama is a little unpredictable. It’s tough to deal with a fighter that can push the pace and hit you with different attacks.
