DraftKings To launch A Sportbook In Mississippi
2018 has been an excellent year for DraftKings, and it’s about to get a whole lot better. DraftKing will open their first official land-based sportsbook via a Casino in Mississippi. They are going into the retail sportsbook business starting this Friday. DraftKings reached an agreement with the Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort in D’Iberville, Mississippi to start operations, the company stated this weekend. Over the last few days, they received its license from the Mississippi Gaming Commission. Other required regulatory approvals are also in line.
“We’re thrilled to be working with Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort, whose leadership has a high bar for quality and a forward-thinking approach to sports betting; a perfect fit for DraftKings,” said Matt Kalish, Chief Revenue Officer and co-founder of DraftKings. “We’re excited to bring and offer an innovative sports betting experience to sports fans in one of the largest and most competitive gaming markets in the U.S.” The official name is ‘DraftKings at Scarlet Pearl Sportsbook.’ It will be a new version of the Scarlet Pearl’s existing PRL Bar. Nevada Station Casino veteran Nicholas Sfanos will be leading the operation as the sportsbook director.
The new Sportsbook will offer live in-play betting via three betting windows “soon.” Also, they will provide automated betting kiosks. The mobile betting app still is in question as online, and mobile wagering is not allowed in Mississippi. “DraftKings at Scarlet Pearl Sportsbook will offer a superior customer experience that includes the opportunity to wager on dozens of sports. In addition, the sportsbook will soon offer live, in-game betting with three windows, giving sports fans a variety of ways to place their bets. Pending regulatory approval, the sportsbook will incorporate on-site kiosks and an on-premise mobile app”, said the DraftKings press release.
The sportsbook will be inside Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort, which already has over 1,170 slots including 80 video poker machines, 37 table games. The resort also has an event center and a championship level miniature golf course. “We are excited to introduce DraftKings, a ‘New Way’ to game for our current and future guests,” Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort CEO LuAnn Pappas said. “Our collaboration with DraftKings is an opportunity for us to continue to set high standards on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and give our players a new home for sports betting.”
DraftKing is slowly taking giant steps in the betting industry
A little over three months ago, DraftKings had never taken a sport bet. Since they entered the sports betting world in New Jersey as a mobile betting giant, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement announced DraftKings held a 35.4 percent market share. That’s about 5% more than FanDuel, its biggest competitor. FanDuel has a presence in Mississippi and West Virginia, a deal in place to operate in New York. They also have an ongoing partnership with Boyd Gaming, trying to expand to every state that legalized sports betting. Mississippi launched sports betting on August; nearly a month and a half after New Jersey came through. If you cannot wait and want to bet now. Check out our top online betting sites ranking.
