MGM Strikes A New Deal With Major League Baseball
If there is any gaming entity that has taken huge advantage of the legalization of sports betting is the MGM Resorts International. MGM announced this week they became the MLB first-ever official gaming partner. “We are pleased to partner with MGM Resorts International, a clear industry leader in the sports gaming area, to work together on bringing innovative experiences to baseball fans and MGM customers,” said Baseball Commissioner Robert D. Manfred, Jr.
“Our partnership with MGM will help us navigate this evolving space responsibly, and we look forward to the fan engagement opportunities ahead.” The agreement will combine the MLB brand with MGM Resorts and playMGM brands across the league and team sponsorships. It also will allow the league’s data usage in gaming, promotion across MLB-owned media platforms, and domestic and international activations at MLB events.
“We are excited to enter into this historic partnership with MLB. We are thrilled to create a new one-of-a-kind fan experience for baseball fans,” said MGM Resorts Chairman and CEO Jim Murren. “Combining MGM Resorts’ world-class entertainment and technology with MLB data will continue to transform a rapidly changing industry. This partnership amplifies the significance of our GVC JV, establishing MGM Resorts and playMGM as the market leader in partnerships with major professional sports leagues.”
With this new partnership, MGM will be shown at MLB Jewel Events, including the All-Star Game and World Series. Internationally, they will become an official partner at grassroots baseball events like the MLB Road Show, in Japan. The MLB Road show allows fans in Japan to participate in baseball activities including batting and pitching cages, baserunning stations, virtual reality and more.
MGM Putting Its Fingerprint Inside The Big Leagues
This deal directly involves one of the top-four sporting leagues in the US. The company had already put a fingerprint in the NHL and the NFL, but not at this level. MGM has a partnership relationship with the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights as owners of the T-Mobile Arena, where the Golden Knights play their home hockey games. In the NFL, they signed a deal with the New York Jets back in October. MGM is the sponsor of the Jets 360 Production Studio. It means they are responsible for the facility used by the Jets for media production.
“We could not be more excited to join with the New York Jets for a first-of-its-kind partnership in the NFL. We look forward to working with the Jets to innovate gaming, increase our customer base through cross-marketing opportunities and provide NFL fans with a one-of-a-kind entertainment experience,” Murren said two months ago about their deal with the New York Football Jets. Another silver lining of the deal with the Jets is the “I called it” app. This is a platform made by MGM when fans can predict the drives of the team when playing at home. The top three places on the leaderboard each week win prizes.
