ONE Championship Launching Asia's eSports Championship Series

ONE Championship, the Singapore-based martial arts organization, intends to lead a plan to invest up to US$50 million to create Asia’s biggest global eSports Championship Series in 2019. ONE eSports is the name of the division, and it will have Razer, Singtel, and other top industry members on their team. The tournament and other events will be part of a joint partnership with Japanese ad agency Dentsu. The company is looking to create a crossover between the ONE Championship martial arts events in 2019. The tournament will be held in different cities in Asia, including Singapore, Bangkok, Tokyo, Seoul, Jakarta, Shanghai, Beijing, Manila, Kuala Lumpur, and Ho Chi Minh City.

ONE Championship Launching Asia's eSports Championship SeriesThe ONE eSports Championship series will be right next to the martial arts events, creating a 2×1 opportunity. They will also make broadcast dedicated eSports content in the form of live event broadcasts, documentaries, weekly magazine shows, highlights, and video blogs. The media platform will be available in 138 countries. “It is with great excitement that I announce ONE eSports, Asia’s largest global eSports Championship Series,” said Chatri Sityodtong, Chairman and CEO of ONE Championship.

“We see a natural crossover between martial arts and gaming fans in Asia and an opportunity to bring them together under Asia’s home of millennial live sports. ONE Championship is committed to bringing its same brand of large-scale event production and live broadcast capabilities, unique world-class content production, global media distribution, storytelling expertise, and marketing experience to ONE eSports. Our mission is to celebrate Asia’s eSports heroes on the global stage. The establishment of ONE eSports transforms ONE Championship into Asia’s largest producer of millennial sports content.”

Betting on E-Sports to be available

A few days ago we announced the E-sports betting platform Unikrn has now a license that allows legal, live-betting on competitive video games in over 20 countries; many of those are in Europe and Asia.
With the ONE eSports Championship Series hitting the calendar in 2019, Unikrn is likely to give gamers the change to bet on themselves and other contestants. Unikrn gave different odds in the past, but only for the players to bet on their abilities. Now any fan in the countries where sports betting is legal can do some damage by betting the Championship Series. The e-sports spectator betting is not yet available in the United States.

Who are the companies teaming up with ONE eSports?

Dentsu is the marketing partner of the Japan eSports Union (JeSU). They are pretty much responsible for making this event a massive one across Asia. “We recognize good synergy between martial arts and eSports, making this a fantastic opportunity for both ONE Championship and Dentsu to participate in this growing segment in Asia, as well as leverage multiple content platforms for additional sales and business opportunities,” said Shuntaro Tanaka, Director, Content Business Design Center of Dentsu.
Razer will be responsible for developing, managing, and organizing eSports tournaments in partnership with ONE eSports. And Singtel Group will be in charge of communications technology around the Championship series.
