Poll Supports That Younger People Want Legal Sports Betting

The Seton Hall Sports Poll shows that the country is divided on legal sports betting, but that young people overwhelmingly favor legalization of sports betting. 46% percent of Americans said they would want full-scale sports betting, but 42% said it was a bad idea. This is an improvement from a 2010 Fairleigh Dickenson poll that showed 39% of Americans supported sports betting and 54% were opposed.

The poll was run from February 20-22 of this year, over landlines and cellphones, showed a clear distinction between age groups. Young people were in favor of allowing sports betting in large numbers. In the 18-29 demographic, 67% of adults favored legalized sports betting. The numbers drop at age 30-44 (48%) and 45-59 (42%). They truly drop off over 60, where just 30% of seniors agree with regulated and taxed sports betting.

Rob Manfred Speaks Positively About Sports Betting (Again)

Manfred has been talking a lot about sports betting as of late. He may soon come out and endorse full-scale sports betting across the country, just as NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver, did in an op-ed in the New York Times in 2014.

Speaking at Cactus League Press Conference, Manfred stated that he Las Vegas “could be a viable market” and that the league is “re-examining” its stance on gambling. “Betting can be a form of fan engagement, it can fuel the popularity of a sport. We all understand that,” said Manfred.
