The Steelers In The 1970s

The Steelers were the dominant NFL franchise of the 1970s, which has contributed to much of their following from a fan and NFL betting odds perspective.

They won four Super Bowls in that decade, including back-to-back titles in the 1975 and 1976 season. And, added two titles in the 21st century, in 2006 and 2009.

Pittsburgh went 13-3 in the 2017 season and has perhaps the best running back and receiver combination in league with Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown.

They also have a two-time Super Bowl winning quarterback in Ben Roethlisberger. They are perennial contenders and look to grab a Super Bowl with their current group.

How to Bet On The Pittsburgh Steelers

  1. Choose a Trusted NFL Betting Site – Choosing the first NFL betting site, or sportsbook you come across is one of the reasons people have a poor experience betting online. There are some predatory or scam sportsbooks out there, and those need to be avoided. We profile every sportsbook online accepting bets from Americans and give bettors our top choices.
  2. Try To Maximize Your Bonuses – One of the main reasons to choose online gambling sites over local bookies is that online NFL betting sites offer deposit bonuses. Always be sure to look for a bonus code or terms before making a deposit and try to deposit the maximum amount to receive the full bonus.
  3. Make Your Deposit – Sportsbooks have a large variety of deposit methods. Familiar options, such as credit card and debit card are available but usually, come with fees. Also, payouts through these methods are typically through checks, which also come with fees.We recommend cryptocurrencies, due to their zero-fees, both when it comes to depositing and withdrawing. They’re also faster than just about every other payout method.
  4. Choose Your Bet – There are many different options when it comes to betting on the Steelers. Aside from traditional sides, totals and NFL moneylines, there are many future bets, including if they will win the Super Bowl, win the AFC Championship, win their division or merely make the postseason. Each game also has a host of player and team propositions. There is also an extensive amount of live betting options for each player after the opening kickoff.
  5. Line Shop for the Best Price – We recommend bettors hold money in multiple sportsbooks, so they can always find the best price on each bet they wish to place. Line shopping is a vital skill for every sports bettor to learn.
  6. Place Your Bet On The Steelers – Confirm that your bet selection and amount are correct on the bet slip when placing your wager. Even bettors who have wagered for years end up making mistakes. Many sportsbooks used to do two-clicks before a bet is confirmed, but these days, several top sportsbooks are opting for just a single click.

The Legality of Betting on the Pittsburgh Steelers

legality of betting on Pittsburgh Steelers

Late in 2017, Pennsylvania legalized sports betting as part of a gaming package that included an expansion of land-based casinos, online poker, and online casino gambling.

As of this writing, no sportsbooks have been opened at the Keystone state, but that is expected to happen by the end of 2019.

So far, only one casino has applied for a sports betting license, Penn National, the owner of Hollywood Casino Penn National, which is located outside of Harrisburg, PA. Sports betting may not change much, despite a sportsbook receiving a license from the state.

License Fees In PA

PA laws require a $10 million license fee to accept sports bets and the state also has an absurd 36 percent tax rate. Accepting bets in PA now requires a license. Local bookies were not previously legal under state law, but their legal status has not changed.

For Pennsylvanians looking to bet on the Steelers or any other sport, things haven’t really changed. There is no crime under PA law that makes it illegal for an individual to place a wager on a sporting event.

Is Sports Betting A Crime In Pennsylvania?

No one in Pennsylvania has ever been charged with a crime for placing a bet an online sportsbook, which offers unique advantages over land-based sportsbooks and local bookies.

If you’re looking to place bets on the Pittsburgh Steelers or any other NFL team this season – your best bet is to take your action to online betting sites.

Popular Pittsburgh Steelers Team Bets

Point spread betting is the most popular wager made on NFL games, but there are plenty of other ways to get in on the action when betting the Steelers or other NFL teams.

NFL totals and moneylines are the most common pre-match wagers besides NFL point spreads, but there is a long list of futures and props for each NFL franchise. To learn more about betting on pro football visit our NFL Betting Guide.

Pittsburgh Steelers Spread Betting

There is no doubt people take Steelers on the point spread bet compared to other betting markets. Stellers are typically one of the top teams in the league and are rarely not a favorite in their games if they’re at home.

Pittsburgh Steelers Team Futures

You will be able to wager on the Steelers’ Super Bowl chances, winning the conference title, or if they make the playoffs. There are also divisional futures for the AFC North. The Steelers typically make the playoffs but have not won a Super Bowl since 2009.

Pittsburgh Steelers Prop Bets

The most common prop bet centered around NFL franchises is their season win totals. For the upcoming 2019 season, the Steelers have a win total of 10.5 wins at most online betting sites.

I don’t love their chances of winning the division as much as other experts, but they should eclipse this win total, albeit barely. The Steelers opened at 11.5 at many sportsbooks and were bet down to this number.

Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl Winning Odds

Pittsburgh Steelers 2019 Super Bowl Winning Odds

The Steelers are near the top of the list to win the Super Bowl at +1000 or 10/1. They’re tied with several other teams, including the Rams, Vikings, and Eagles at +1000.

I don’t love Pittsburgh’s chances this season to win the title. Their defensive needs have still not been addressed.

They also have a brutal schedule after their 13-3 season last year. Each team in their division has also improved drastically.

Of the other teams that are sitting with at +1000 to win the Super Bowl – I like all three of them much better.

The Pittsburgh Steelers This Season

The Steelers are coming off a 13-3 season in which they dominated in the AFC North. The season did not end the way they wanted, however.

After receiving a first-round bye, they fell to the Jaguars at Heinz Field in the divisional playoffs. Pittsburgh still has one of the more potent offenses in the league, but their defense has become a significant issue as they look for a Super Bowl title.

The coaching staff has remained largely the same, aside from Todd Haley’s contract not being renewed and hm moving over to the Browns as offensive coordinator. Randy Fichtner, the long-time quarterbacks’ coach, will take over as offensive coordinator.

Le’Veon Bell Contract Dispute

Le’Veon Bell held out once again with a contract dispute but will play for Pittsburgh this season. Martavis Bryant has moved to on Oakland after a tumultuous career in the Steel City.

Defensively is where the team has made the most changes. Safety Mike Mitchell was cut and has been replaced by former-Packer, Morgan Burnett.

They took Terrell Edmunds in the first-round, and he is expected to play a sort of hybrid linebacker-safety combination.

A healthy Joe Haden will once again form a cornerback tandem with sophomore, Artie Burns. The best news for the Steelers is the excellent health of defensive ends, Cameron Heyward and Stephon Tuitt.

Pittsburgh Steelers Team Rivalries

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens and the Steelers have been, by far, the two most successful franchises in the AFC North. Baltimore and Pittsburgh are one of the best yearly rivalries in the NFL.

These two teams hate each other, but they respect each other, as well. These games always seem to be low-scoring and decided by a field goal.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New England Patriots

The Steelers and Patriots not only usually face each other in the regular season, but they have plenty of playoff battles.

New England has bested the Steelers in the postseason, for the most part, but both have a few championships in the past two decades. When these two teams play each other, in many cases, it’s the team best teams in the AFC.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cincinnati Bengals

There was a bit of respect between the other two rivalries. Between Steelers and Bengals, there is much love between these two teams, no respect.

These matchups produce a lot of penalties and several season-ending injuries. And, in some cases, season-ending injuries. Games between these teams are not for the faint of heart.

Pittsburgh Steelers Key Players

The Steelers key players are the “three Bs.” Brown, Ben, and Bell. They make up the best offensive trio in the entire league. It’s a shame, as I mentioned above that their defense isn’t a bit better or they probably would have won several Super Bowls.

NFL Bets On Ben Roethlisberger

Big Ben will need to throw a lot this year with his defense, but I do agree with the markets that his yardage will likely be lower this year.

The matchups the Steelers have are much more difficult this season, and I think that will hurt his production, overall.

Ben Roethlisberger – Total Interceptions Thrown In 2019

  • Over 16.5 Interceptions -140
  • Under 16.5 Interceptions +110

Ben Roethlisberger – Total Passing Yards In 2019

  • Over 4449.5 Passing Yards +125
  • Under 4449.5 Passing Yards -155

Ben Roethlisberger – Total Touchdown Passes In 2019

  • Over 28 Touchdowns -120
  • Under 28 Touchdowns -110

NFL Bets On Le’Veon Bell

The Steelers offensive line is elite, but I do agree on Bell’s numbers being a bit down this year. He could easily score over 12.5 touchdowns, but I like his yardage to go below the number.

Bell will likely be eased in the first few games, or longer, which will hurt his production. Check out some of his props from SportsBetting.ag below:

Le’Veon Bell – Total Rushing Yards In 2019

  • Over 1324.5 Yards +130
  • Under 1324.5 Yards -160

Le’Veon Bell – Total Touchdowns In 2019

  • Over 12.5 Touchdowns -130
  • Under 12.5 Touchdowns +100

NFL Bets On Antonio Brown

The Steelers may rely on Brown more than ever this season. I think they will be playing from behind this year far more than others believe.

Brown is their go-to option when trailing, and no cornerback in the league has ever been able to cover A.B. I think the over on the props below is a solid bet.
Antonio Brown – Total Receiving Yards In 2019

  • Over 1499.5 Yards -110
  • Under 1499.5 Yards -120

Antonio Brown – Total Touchdowns In 2019

  • Over 10 Touchdowns -110
  • Under 10 Touchdowns -120

Pittsburgh Steelers Game Schedule

The Steelers are tied for 25th according to the NFL’s strength of schedule, but this statistic isn’t worth much when predicting future outcomes.

The reality for Pittsburgh is that their team, particularly their defense, hasn’t gotten much better and the rest of the division, have all improved.

Pittsburgh faces the NFC South in their NFC series, a division which produced three playoff teams last year. They also have a date with the Jaguars in Jacksonville, the team that eliminated them from the playoffs last season.

They will face tough some of the AFC’s top teams in the Chiefs, Chargers, and Patriots, but all these matchups are at Heinz Field.

All in all, their schedule is extremely tough this season, and I think many are overrating their chances for the Super Bowl or even their dominance in the AFC North.
