Dayton (7) versus Wichita State (10) -6.5

Wichita is my favorite play today. With they lost some experience last year, their team this year is one of the best units they’ve had heading into the tournament under Greg Marshall. They come into the tournament red hot, winning their last 15 games. So much for a “rebuilding year.”

Dayton has been solid this year but struggled as they come into the tournament. Wichita isn’t known for their defense, but they do have a major edge on Dayton when it comes to shooting from deep and hitting their shots at the line.

The Shockers opened as a -6 favorite. They’ve gotten most betting action since opening. The odds have moved to -6.5 at most online sportsbooks.

Pick: Wichita -6.5

Michigan State (9) versus Miami Fla. (8) -2.5

Tom Izzo’s Spartans take on the Hurricanes this evening, which is projected to be one of the closer games in this tournament per the oddsmakers.

The Canes have been installed as small favorites and rightfully so in my mind. Even with Izzo at the helm, this has not been great for much of the year. Their shooting has not been as strong this year, and it feels like without Izzo as coach this team would be even larger underdogs.

Miami is an unheralded team in the tournament, but have plenty of upperclassman scorers. Betting has been split 50/50 on both sides, but the Hurricanes have gone from a -1 favorite at opening to -2.5 at sportsbooks as of this writing.

Pick: Miami -2.5
