NFL Best Bets Against The Spread – Week 3
Unfortunately, our Week 2 picks didn’t match up to our success in Week 1. We went 0-3 on the picks last week, losing the Bills, Cardinals, and Under 42.5 in the Giants and Cowboys game. That puts our YTD Record at 3-3. Hopefully, we can get back to our winning ways in Week 3. The odds below are from SportsBetting.ag which offers new bettors a 50% Welcome Bonus up to $1,000 on their first deposit. Cincinnati Bengals +3 (-120) Vs. Carolina Panthers +3 (+100)
The Bengals travel to Carolina after their hot start in the AFC North at 2-0. They took on the Ravens last Thursday and beat their North rivals 34-23. The Panthers are 1-1 after beating Dallas last week and losing to a division rival, Atlanta, at the Georgia Dome, in Week 2. This spread opened at 3 and has not moved off that number. Betting action has been mostly split between the two sides.
This is an excellent spot for the Bengals. The market is possibly behind on giving this team their due, as they’ve looked fantastic in the first two games of the season behind a stronger offensive line and a host of skill players to complement wide receiver, A.J. Green. They’re also coming off quite a bit more rest than the Panthers, who fought hard, only to lose to the Falcons last week.
Carolina’s offensive line is also in shambles after injuries have wiped out much of their starters. They may get some guys back this week, but Cincinnati’s pass rush is excellent, and they’re going to get pressure on Newton, regardless. The Panthers are a better team at home, but I feel like the talent disparity is too much in this one. Cincinnati may win the AFC North when it’s all said and done, and they certainly have an excellent chance of winning this game on Sunday.
San Francisco 49ers +6.5 (-110) Vs. Kansas City Chiefs -6.5 (-110)
In what will be one of the games of the week – the 49ers travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs. The Niners are even on the season after defeating the visiting Lions last week. Kansas City is 2-0 as Patrick Mahomes II has taken the league by storm. This one is at +7 and -7 at several sites, but the juice will be heavy on the 49ers in those cases. Bettors have gone heavy on the chiefs in this one, which has moved the line from a -5.5 to -7 at some spots.
Mahomes start has been tremendous, but I think it’s worth pumping the brakes a bit. San Francisco’s defense is awful, but they’re a strong offensive team, and I still don’t think we can count on Mahomes throwing four touchdowns a week. Few are talking about how bad awful the Chiefs are on defense. It’s tough to justify them as a touchdown favorite against a team that has played as well as the Niners have in their past ten games, going back to last season. If they didn’t lose to Minnesota, perhaps the best team in the NFC, in Week 1, then this spread may be a lot closer. I’ll take the points.
Los Angeles Chargers +7 (-112) Vs. Los Angeles Rams -7 (-110)
This is a game that will likely be more talked about nationally, compared to locally. Was it the best idea to put two teams in one of the biggest cities in the country, even if the fans truly don’t care about football? Even if L.A.’s fans don’t care about the game – football fans certainly do. The Rams are being talked about as Super Bowl contenders and the Chargers are one of the most underrated teams in not just the AFC, but the league.
The odds in this opened with the Rams at -5.5 and has moved to -6.5 and -7 at some spots. The public is all over the Rams in this spot. They’re getting over 60% of the wagers so far. I think the L.A. Rams could easily win the Super Bowl this year, but seven points is a bit too much for a Chargers team that has all sorts of talent on both sides of the ball. The Chargers also match up quite well from an offensive perspective in this matchup, as well.
Their playmakers all work inside the numbers, like Melvin Gordon and Keenan Allen, while Tyrell Williams and Mike Williams will have to face outside corners, Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters. The Chargers could win this game. That’s something that no one is talking about. I will take +7 or more every time in this matchup.
