Jacksonville Jaguars +3 at Kansas City Chiefs -3 Total:49
In what should be hyped as the game of the week, the Jaguars head to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs in a battle of Super Bowl contenders from the AFC. The Jags had an unfortunate loss at Tenessee in Week 3 but bounced back in a big way against the Jets last week, winning 31-12. Kansas City continues to dominate with Patrick Mahomes at quarterback. They are now 4-0 after a come from behind win against the Broncos on MNF.
This one opened at Jaguars +3.5, but that went away earlier in the week. Betting action seems to be split 50/50 between both sides, but sharp money on Jacksonville did move the spread down to 3. I would have liked the +3.5 but I still think there is value with Jacksonville here. We saw Mahomes struggle to get things going until the final quarter of the game where he led the Chiefs to victory. I think we will see him slip up a bit and regress. Kansas City is also coming off a shorter week in a comeback win against a rival. Whereas, the Jaguars have had extra rest and are coming off an easy blowout victory.
Tennessee Titans -5.5 at Buffalo Bills +5.5 Total: 39
The Titans took care of the defending champion, Eagles, last week in overtime, even with their quarterback sporting an injury to his throwing hand. Marcus Mariota’s hand is still not fully healed but he will make a start this Sunday at Buffalo. After Buffalo’s upset at Minnesota last week, they came back down to earth in a big way against the Packers. The 22-0 defeat dropped them to 1-3 on the season. The Titans opened as a -3.5 favorite in this one, but the line has moved two full points to -5.5. Bettors have heavily backed the visitors in this one as we head closer to Sunday.
The Bills are a terrible team, but they are a team that plays much better at home. And, again, they’re facing a team that is coming off a big victory in overtime against the reigning Super Bowl Champions. Mariota did play well last week but he is still dealing with a hand and elbow injury. The Titans offense also hasn’t looked anything close spectacular this year. The Bills are being undervalued in this spot after taking a shellacking from the Packers last week. Take the points.
Oakland Raiders +4.5 at Los Angeles Chargers -4.5 Total: 52.5
This AFC West showdown has one of the highest totals of the week. The Raiders finally got their first win of the year against the visiting Browns last week in a 45-42 high scoring affair that ended in overtime. Still, they’re in desperation mode as they head to Los Angeles. The Chargers are coming off a 29-27 home win against the visiting 49ers to put their record at 2-2 on the season. The Chargers opened this one at -7, but that has been bet down across the board to -5.5 or -4.5. Betting action from the public has seen wagers come in around the same amount, but it’s clear that early week sharp money came in on the Raiders.
Divisional games are always closer and it’s become a theme at this point of the Chargers losing games they should win. This is another spot that could happen. Defensively, they’re simply getting too much credit, as well. Their defense has been awful this season and was supposed to be a strength. They’re down starting cornerbacks and without their best passer, in Joey Bosa. This defense gave up 300 yards passing to C.J. Beathard last week. I think there is value in Oakland plus a field goal.
