Anaheim Ducks Vs. Chicago Blackhawks Predictions
The only consistency the Blackhawks have this season is they have found ways to give us thrilling, exciting high-scoring games in the first weeks. Chicago has the fifth-best scoring offense in the NHL, averaging 3.8 goals per game. Yet, they have allowed 32 goals this season, ranking second worst in the league. Once one of the most disciplined teams in hockey, the Blackhawks are a shadow of what they used to be. Chicago has alternated wins and losses in the five games. They dropped their last outing at home against the Tampa Bay Lightning (6-3), which means they should win against Anaheim if we follow the trend.
The one problem with that form is they have been horrible at home this year, and they will play the next two at the United Center. The Blackhawks are 1-2-1 when playing at home ice, including losses to Toronto, Arizona and Tampa Bay. In those three home losses, they gave up 5.6 goals on average. Anaheim can’t brag about having a better form either. The Ducks have dropped four of their last six outings, and three of those losses came in regulation. Their previous two losses were against Las Vegas Golden Knights (1-3) and the Buffalo Sabres (2-4).
The Ducks are struggling to score goals. They average 2.6 goals per game (24th) as LW Jakob Silfverberg leads the team with only three goals this season. Chicago, for example, has Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat with eight goals each. That’s a massive difference. Where Anaheim levels things is at the defensive side of the puck. They give up just 2.3 goals per game this season (3rd best). Goalie John Gibson should get back to the starting lineup to face Chicago after resting against Buffalo. Gibson has a 1.91 goal-against per game average this season and recorded the only clean sheet performance for the Ducks this year.
The Ducks have won four of the last five games in the series against the Blackhawks, including the previous two. These two teams are two different tales. Anaheim is a defensive minded squad with very little offensive power. Their 23.8 shots per game average is the lowest in the NHL. Chicago is an offensive machine with minimum discipline on the defensive side. Something has to give. What’s the play? Ducks.
