Arizona State Vs. Fresno State Predictions - Las Vegas Bowl

The first ranked team we will see during the 2018 bowl season will be the Fresno State Bulldogs as they take on the Arizona State Sun Devils in the Mitsubishi Motors Las Vegas Bowl, in Nevada. The Devils haven’t been quite as good during the bowl season in the last decade, and they hired big-time coach Herm Edwards to win this type of games. MyBookie.ag listed Fresno State as a 5-point favorite for this one. The betting line started at 3-points, but 54% of the betting public is taking the Bulldogs to cover the spread. The game total is at 54 points.

Arizona State Sun Devils vs. Fresno State Bulldogs Predictions

Arizona State opened the season with two wins, including a great one against Michigan State in week two. But after that win, everything went straight down. The Sun Devils ended the rest of the season five wins and five losses. Their 7-5 earned them a spot in the Las Vegas Bowl, but I’m sure when they coach Edwards they were looking for something better. The Sun Devils will be without star receiver N’Keal Harry as he prepares for the NFL Draft. That’s bad news for Arizona State as Fresno State has the 18th best defense in yards per pass attempt allowed. Harry is a weapon the Devils used to stretch the field. They will need another name on Saturday. 46 of his 73 catches this season gave his team a first down this year. That’s an impact player right there.

Motivation is the key here, especially for the Bulldogs. Fresno State is looking for their first ever 12-win season. They are not about to miss their chance because for many a bowl win is meaningless. For example, Arizona State hasn’t taken the Bowl season seriously. They have a 2-6 record in their eight bowl games. We have to wait and see if that will chance with coach Herm Edwards in charge. Although he has said in the past, he instead would use this as a development opportunity for his younger players. Arizona State’s defense is aggressive and likes to blitz and confuse opposing quarterbacks.

Fresno State quarterback Marcus McMaryion had an excellent year, posting 25 touchdowns and only three interceptions. He also has underrated movement inside the pocket and can scramble out to gain yards with his runs. Fresno State is an underrated team that has shown signs they are willing to go on a fight against anybody and more often than not they will end up on top. Their 19-16 win in overtime at Boise State for the Mountain West title tell you precisely that.

I’m not willing to risk my bankroll on Arizona State and their willingness to put a young squad on the field. I know exactly what I’m getting when betting on Fresno State. This is the Bulldogs’ best team in the last decade. It’s a great chance to cash in. What’s the play? Fresno State -5.
