5 Auburn Tigers Vs. 1 Virginia Cavaliers Betting Preview
It’s going to be a battle of different styles in the first Final Four matchup of the weekend. The ultra-defensive Virginia is the only number one seed remaining in the tournament. They jump out as solid favorites to beat the Auburn Tigers in the first semifinal matchup. I really thought Virginia was the weakest side of the number one seed in the tournament. Three are gone, and the Cavaliers are the only one remaining. I guess I was dead wrong. But the Cavs playing style is arguably one that can be upset any given night. It was proven by Florida State in the ACC tournament and almost happened again against Purdue in the Elite Eight.
From the remaining four teams in the tournament, Virginia is the favorite at +150 to win March Madness. The implied probability of them winning title is about 40% which is pretty solid with two games remaining. The Cavaliers upper hand over Auburn is they are a very dedicated team on defense. Virginia will play hard the entire 40 minutes and more if that’s the road to win. I’m not sure the Tigers have that will. Auburn is a more talented team, and they have shown it by beating three marquee programs on consecutive rounds. Not many programs have recorded a streak of wins over Kansas, North Carolina, and Kentucky in a week and a half; not to mention in elimination games.
The Tigers are +700 to win the Big Dance. Those odds represent around 12% of chances to win it all. The people making the odds might not believe Auburn has two more wins in them. The reality is this team has been playing outstanding basketball during the entire March. None of this is a surprise. MyBookie also listed a few players that can win the most outstanding player of the tournament. Virginia has Kyle Guy at +250. He really shined over the Purdue with a 25 points performance. Guy added 10 rebounds, making the biggest impact on his team.
Auburn has guard Jared Harper at +1000. I’m telling you, the Tigers are not getting the respect they deserve and that opens the door to hit some really valuable bets. Harpers scored 26 points against Kentucky with more than half coming in the last minutes of the regular time; plus the overtime. Harper is actually the key to this game. He’s the guy the Cavaliers need to stop, and I’m not entirely sure they can. He’s too fast and too smart to be controlled. Virginia is an excellent defensive team, but they won’t keep up with the pace of the Tigers. So far no team has been able to stop or match their speed. Virginia will be just another victim. What’s the play? Auburn +5.5
