Wildcats Battle-Tested Out Of SEC

The Kentucky Wildcats have played out of the SEC all season; the conference most experts agree is the toughest from top to bottom. The Wildcats started with back-to-back non-conference wins but then losing four of five had them looking for help to get to a bowl game.

Kentucky rallied with four wins in its final five games to become bowl-eligible.

The Wildcats will be without their special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach Dean Hood, as he was hired as the head coach at Murray State.

Bowden Will Lead The Offense

Kentucky will have its electric offensive threat in Lynn Bowden Jr., who led the team in both rushing and receiving yards. He finished with a combined 1,500-plus yards and 12 touchdowns.

The Wildcats will hang their hat on the defensive end. Kentucky allowed just 18.4 points per game. During its recent hot streak, Kentucky allowed just 12.3 points per game over a five-game stretch.

Long Wait For Hokies Following Rivalry Loss

The Hokies had intentions of playing in the ACC title game against Clemson. All they needed was to beat their long-time rival, Virginia, on the road.

That did not happen, and now they are heading to Charlotte. The Hokies came into that game on a three-game winning streak, with wins over Wake Forest, Georgia Tech and Pittsburgh.

Finishing 8-4 was a far cry from the road loss at Boston College to start the 2019 season for the Hokies.

Key Players

Quarterback Hendon Hooker improved the offense late in the season with his 11 touchdowns. Tre Turner is the top target in the passing game, with 33 receptions and four touchdowns.

Our Kentucky Vs. Virginia Tech Belk Bowl Prediction

Do not expect a lot of points to be scored in this game. Neither team has shown the ability to run and gun and win shootout type football games.

Taking the under in this game seems to be a pretty solid bet, despite it moving from 47 to 46.5.

The Hokies have seen their last four games against non-conference opponents go under the spread. Kentucky has also seen the under hit in its last four games as an underdog.

Kentucky has been very good against non-conference teams. In fact, the Wildcats have won their last six ATS against non-conference opponents. But we like the Hokies to grab the win.

They are also 5-1 ATS in their last six against non-conference teams. Look for Virginia Tech to be hungry following that loss to Virginia and win this game by a touchdown. Taking Virginia Tech -3 is the bet here.
