Brazil vs. Peru: Copa America Final – Betting Odds And Expert Picks
Brazil vs. Peru Copa America Final Betting Preview
Brazil will host Peru in the 2019 Copa America final this weekend, in what looks like one of the most one-sided finals in recent memory. Peru needs a perfect game to pull what could be considered one of the biggest upsets in soccer history.
This is the classic story of David and Goliath, but with the fact that Goliath destroyed David 5-0 in this tournament already.
When Brazil hammered Peru in the last game of the group stage, not many believed the Peruvians had a chance to reach the final, but here they are.
Brazil vs. Peru Betting Odds
|-370 (Draw +358)||Moneyline||+939 (Draw +358)|
|-1.5 (-109)||Spread||+1.5 (-120)|
|Over 2.5 goals (-104)||Game Total||Under 2.5 goals (-128)|
When the Copa America started, Peru was +2500 to win the title. It was a long shot considering they haven’t won this championship since 1975. With one game to be played, there still value on taking Peru at +939 in the money line.
The implied probability of that play is about 10% to become a reality. Brazil was the top favorite right from the start. A few things have gone their way to reach to this point.
They are arguably the most talented team of the tournament, and the fact that they are the host nation helps a lot. Before the competition, they were listed +110 to win the Copa America, on top of everybody else.
The Brazilians were benefited by two referee mistakes in the semifinal against Argentina. Two penalties should have been given to the Argentinean, but with VAR included the referee missed it.
One thing no one can deny is Brazil is the team with the best preparation to face the Copa America. The Brazilians are yet to concede a goal in the tournament; they are the only team with a clean sheet on every single game.
Their offense, on the other side, has scored ten goals in five games. Five of those 10 goals were in the matchup against Peru.
If a team beats another 5-0, it’s pretty clear they are better, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the final will have the same outcome. I expect Peru to be better prepared for the rematch, showing some pride and a lot of effort, especially on defense.
Peru has a puncher’s chance at the most to win this game. The more time progresses without conceding a goal, the more those chances to get an upset will increase.
The Peruvians drew scoreless against Uruguay and then beat the Charruas in penalty kicks. That’s the only scenario where I can see them get the win.
With that said, I’m taking Brazil to win in the money line. I don’t expect another beating like the one they had in the first game, but anything other than a Brazilian win will be a shocker.
