Canelo vs. GGG II Undercard Fights Betting Preview: Odds & Predictions

Sure, we have been waiting for Canelo vs. GGG II for a while. It’s the biggest boxing event in 2018. The first fight left us with a bitter taste. A draw? What’s worse than a draw in any sport, let alone in boxing? A year later we are back where we started. Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin are ready to give us a heck of a show. The bar is high, though, considering what they showed in 2017. Will they deliver?

Jaime Munguia vs. Brandon Cook Fight Prediction

Boxing is one of those few sports left where an underdog can still hit the big bucks with a solid punch. But in this fight, the Mexican Jaime Munguia (30-0, 25 KO) is the ultimate favorite, and he should be. The oddsmakers at Sportsbetting.ag tried to give the Canadian Brandon Cook (20-1-0, 13 KO) some betting flavor, but it’s pointless. Munguia is the next big star in Latin-American boxing. This fight is the chance to take his name to the next level. Munguia is a rising star in the 154-pound division. He’s undefeated with a 30-0 record and 25 KO in those wins. He almost got a chance to replace Canelo to face Golovkin in May. It was good for him the fight didn’t happen.

Munguia is 21-years old, and he’s not ready for the big stage, just yet. Six of the last seven Munguia’s outing ending with either a KO or a TKO. But Liam Smith was able to stop the Mexican’s punch power and took his last fight to the max. Against Cook, Munguia will see a relatively easy challenge. The best years of Cook’s career are already behind him. The 32-years old Canadian is a sparring type of boxer. He doesn’t suppose to win. Cook needs to give Munguia a chance to show his skills on a big platform. Any other result than the Mexican victory would be a stunner.

Roman Gonzalez vs. Moises Fuentes Fight Prediction

Once considered the world’s pound-for-pound best fighter, Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (46-2-0, 38 KO) is on the downside of his career. The Nicaraguan is already 31-years old with a small upside at the super flyweight division. After losing his last two outings against Wisaksil “Srisaket” Wangek, Gonzalez looks to be on the winning side for the first time since 2016. The first loss against Wangek was somehow controversial, but there was no room for debate in the second one. “Chocolatito” was hammered with a fourth-round KO in the rematch.

Two straight losses and the second one coming on a lousy display changed the faith of what once looked like a promising career. Gonzalez can’t leave any doubt against Moises Fuentes (25-5-1, 14 KO) on Saturday if he wants to get back the respect he lost against Srisaket. The Mexican Fuentes is not a bad way for Gonzalez to gain his confidence back. Moy Fuentes has lost three of his last four fights, and two of those losses sent him to the floor to never see the light again.

Since the fight was announced a few months ago, these two fighters have used the local press to intimidate each other. Fuentes has gone a little further, talking about the crisis Nicaragua is suffering right now. I’m all about bad mouthing the opponent, but Moy Fuentes is not that great of a fighter to take it to the political level. Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez can and will put him to sleep early in this fight.

David Lemieux vs. Spike O’Sullivan Fight Prediction

A boxing fight is as much fun as the hype surrounding it. Gary Spike O’Sullivan (28-2-0, 20 KO) has left his mark by trash talking his way into the headlines. His social media outlets have been on-fire leading to Saturday. O’Sullivan did throw a fair shot when he called David Lemieux (39-4-0, 33 KO) a “one-trick pony.” Lemieux is a power puncher, and that’s about it. The good news for him is when you have such powerful weapon is easy to win fights against unprepared opponents.

The Canadian Lemieux enters this challenge with four wins in his last five outings. His only loss in that’s span was against Billy Joe Saunders after a unanimous decision. But it wasn’t a pretty sight to see. Saunders embarrassed David by outplaying him from start to finish. Lemieux bounced back beating Karim Achour also on a unanimous decision in May.

Lemieux might not be good enough to fight against the most technician fighters in the world, but he can send guys like Spike O’Sullivan to sleep. With 34-years old, O’Sullivan is mostly trying to stay relevant by calling out opponents. He joins this challenge with six wins in his last six fights. But neither of those wins represented what Lemieux can bring as a fighter on Saturday Night. Lemieux vs. O’Sullivan could be the best fight of the night, other than the main event, of course. The Canadian still has plenty of power to shut O’Sullivan up. The Irish is ready for the “one-trick pony” challenge. It should be fun.
