Chargers Vs. Chiefs Picks – Thursday Night Football Week 15 Betting Odds

Chargers Vs. Chiefs Predictions - Thursday Night Football | Week 14 Odds

If the Los Angeles Chargers want their name to be on the list of real Super Bowl contenders, they must win their AFC West matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night. Kansas City has dominated the series in the last few years. LA needs a statement win late in the season that will put them in the map.

MyBookie.ag listed the Chiefs as a 3.5 point favorite for this divisional matchup. During the week the line dropped to 3 points for about a second and then it came back to 3.5. Right now 55% of the betting public is taking the home team to cover the spread. The game total is at 53.5 points after it opened at a high 56.5.

What’s the Chargers’ latest betting form to face the Chiefs?

Whenever we mentioned the Super Bowl contenders, we are sure about the names. But then we look at the standings, and the Chargers pop up with a ten win season. Since we haven’t seen Philip Rivers take his team deep into a playoff run since 2007, there are still doubts about their real chances. This is the first time the Chargers have won nine games since 2009. A win by Los Angeles won’t put them ahead of the Chiefs in the AFC West division even though they would tie the record. Kansas City still has a better divisional record than LA, and that would be the tiebreaker knowing the season series would be split.

Kansas City beat Los Angeles in week one of the season 38-28 as the Chargers were a 1-point favorite. It was the coming out party of Patrick Mahomes and Los Angeles had no clue on how to stop him. They shouldn’t feel bad about it. We are entering week 15 of the NFL season, and the rest of the league hasn’t figured out him either. Last week the Chargers earned their third straight win by beating the Bengals 26-21. That game was a little too close for my comfort. Los Angeles was clearly the better team, but they led Cincinnati to hang around until the end. At some point the now Bengals’ QB Jeff Driskel had a chance to tie the score. The Chargers failed to cover the spread as a 16.5-point favorite at home.

One of LA’s best weapons, RB Melvin Gordon, is unlikely to see the field on Thursday Night. Gordon has missed the last two games with a knee injury, and the expectation is that he will miss a third straight. The Chargers have been averaging 85.0 rushing yards in the two games Melvin was out. Austin Ekeler, the backup tailback, will also be out with a head injury. It all falls in the production of rookies Justin Jackson and Detrez Newsome.

What’s the Chiefs’ latest betting form to face the Chargers?

Kansas City suffered quite the scare last week against the Ravens. Their 27-24 home win over the Ravens needed a Patrick Mahomes performance for the ages. Mahomes completed two four-down conversions to tie the game in the last drive of regulation. One of those completions was a 4th and 9 situations where he put the ball right on the money to Tyreek Hill for a 48 yards gain. Mahomes is playing at an MVP level, and that’s what the Chiefs need him to do for the rest of the season. Since cutting Kareem Hunt, Kansas City’s run game hasn’t been the same. The team is getting one-dimensional. That’s never a good thing unless red-hot Pat Mahomes is your QB.

The Chiefs are already qualified for the postseason. Their job for the rest of the regular season is to keep home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. A win against the Chargers will be a massive step in the right direction. Kansas City will visit CenturyLink field next week to face the Seattle Seahawks. They can’t afford to go there knowing the Chargers would surpass them with a loss.

The number one concern in Kansas City this week is the health of wideout stud Tyreek Hill. During the game against the Ravens, Hill suffered a heel injury. He went into the locker room and came back for the last drives of the game, but he was in obvious discomfort. Hill is the wide receiver with the second most receiving yards this season, only behind Julio Jones of the Atlanta Falcons. After losing Hunt two weeks ago, they can’t bear to lose another playmaker of this caliber.

The play For the TNF Game between Chargers Vs. Chiefs?

I started this article by telling you the Chiefs have clear-cut domination in the series against the Chargers. Kansas City has won nine of their last ten meetings, including the last nine in a row. It also happens that the Chiefs have covered the spread in eight of those nine games. It includes this year’s week one meeting where for some reason Los Angeles was a one-point favorite. LA has lost their last five trips to Arrowhead Stadium and has been able to cover the spread just once in those previous five visits.

This is not a kind stadium for the Chargers or any team in the NFL, let alone on primetime and in a game of such high stakes. I get the better quarterback in Mahomes -sorry Philip-, the best offense and the best coach in Andy Reid by backing up the Chiefs. The Chargers defense is clearly more talented than Kansas City’s, but last week a guy name Jeff Driskel moved the ball over them. They are not bulletproof. I’m riding the Mahomes train until the end. What’s the play? Chiefs -3.5.
