Chargers Vs. Steelers – Sunday Night Football Betting Odds | Predictions
Arguably the best game of the weekend will go down in Pittsburgh when the Steelers host the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday Night Football at Heinz Field. The battle is between two teams that will be in the postseason, barring a colossal collapse. It’s the first time the Chargers will be on Primetime since 2014.
MyBookie.ag listed the Steelers as a field goal favorite for this one. The betting line opened with the home team as a 3.5-point favorite, but it dropped half of a point during the week. 58% of the betting public is going with Pittsburgh to cover the spread. I don’t think the line will get any significant movement from now and until the kickoff. The game total is currently at 52 points.

What’s the Chargers latest betting form to face the Steelers?
To know the Chargers haven’t been on a Primetime game since 2014 tells you exactly why few are talking about them when it comes to the Super Bowl chances. We haven’t seen Los Angeles do it in recent years, and that’s why there is doubt. If the Chargers want everybody to take them seriously, they need to find a way to win this game in Pittsburgh. It’s a chance to make a statement and put their name with the real contenders. Los Angeles is just one game away from the Kansas City Chiefs. KC is not only the top team of the AFC West division but the best team in the entire American Conference. However, they are just one game above the Chargers. In fact, they will meet in three weeks, and that’s why it’s important to stay within reach.
The Chargers destroyed the Cardinals 45-10 last week. The impressive part of the result is the afternoon Philip Rivers had, completing 28 of 29 passes, including 25 in a row. Rivers is having an underrated season having thrown 26 touchdowns against only 6 interceptions. With a solid defense and Rivers playing at a high level, the Chargers have won seven of their last 8 games. Three of those were on the road. However, I can make an argument they play every game on the road as they have pretty much zero home field advantage.
The Chargers have been money lately, covering the spread in five of their last seven games. However, here it’s where it gets tricky. They will probably go into Heinz Field without RB Melvin Gordon, who suffered a knee injury. The head coach Anthony Lynn said it’s “highly unlikely” the star running back suits up. Gordon is what makes this offense going, and they don’t have anybody as talented to replace him.
What’s the Steelers latest betting form to face the Jaguars?
Remember three weeks ago when the Steelers utterly abused the Carolina Panthers on a Thursday Night Football? We were ready to make Pittsburgh the favorites in the AFC. Fast forward to this week, and the Steelers struggled to beat the lousy Jacksonville Jaguars, and they lost to the Denver Broncos on the road in the last two weeks. The loss in Denver is quite critical for Pittsburgh. First, they lost the second-seed in the AFC to the New England Patriots. And second, to get it back, they must beat the Chargers, the Patriots and then, they still have a challenge against the New Orleans Saints. They couldn’t afford to lose that game against the Broncos.
Before their games against Jacksonville and Denver, the Steelers covered the spread five games in a row. They looked like they were clicking but going on the road showed us a different face. It wasn’t a great one. Here’s what bothers me to bet on the Steelers. Their offense is sloppy. They don’t want to admit it, but they miss Le’Veon Bell. In fact, they are done talking about this subject, but he used to take this offense to another level.
Pittsburgh offense is making too many turnovers for my taste. First Ben Roethlisberger has thrown 12 interceptions this season. That’s tied with the second most thrown. The Steelers have 19 turnovers in 2018, including four last week against the Broncos. Only six teams have recorded more turnover this season, and all six are teams with losing records. I like the Steelers because they have playmakers on offense and their defense is good enough to help them make a run in the playoffs. But Roethlisberger is just careless with the football this year. It’s has been a trend that he hasn’t been able to shake off. New to betting on the Steelers? Read our Online Guide To Betting On Pittsburgh Steelers.
The play for the SNF game between Chargers and Steelers?
Missing Melvin Gordon is a big deal for the Chargers. He’s the little engine that could for the offense. I do think they can get close to his production by putting together a running back committee just for this game. The defenses between the Chargers and the Steelers are pretty much the same. They are young cores with a solid pass rush and a good enough secondary defense. I do like LA’ secondary defense a little more.
Here’s where I find the difference. I trust Philip Rivers more right now than Ben Roethlisberger. Rivers is playing lights out. He is getting help from very underrated players like Keenan Allen, Tyrell Williams, and Mike Williams. This is a wide receiving corps that no one talks about. Last week the Broncos shut down Antonio Brown.
The Chargers defense has the talent to aim something similar. But then again, the difference goes on how the quarterbacks have been playing lately. Give me the Chargers and the points on Sunday Night. This should be a close one. If Los Angeles wants to be taken seriously, this is the game they must win. Bet Chargers +3.
