Bears at Lions 2019 Thanksgiving NFL Game Betting Odds and Picks

2019 Thanksgiving Game: Chicago Bears (5-6) At Detroit Lions (3-7-1)

Before stuffing your face with turkey, don’t forget to place your NFL bets for Thanksgiving. It’s not every day we get three contests on a Thursday, and that’s what I’m thankful for this holiday season.

The Chicago Bears look to take down the Detroit Lions in an NFC North matchup to open NFL week 13. Neither team is great, but you won’t hear any complaints from me. I’ll take football on a Thursday afternoon, even with these two teams.

The oddsmakers opened this game as a pick’em, but quickly the Bears jumped as favorites. Most sports betting sites have Chicago -1.5, but is one of the few with the betting line already at -2.

61% of the betting public is taking the Bears to cover the spread over the Lions.

The Chicago Bears’ Edge Vs. The Lions

The Bears are not technically out of the playoff hunt, which means they need to win this game. Sitting with a 5-6 record, there is no margin for error now, and they will almost certainly need to win out to make it to the postseason.

Three of the next five contests will be on the road. However, considering they visit Green Bay and Minnesota, beating the Lions looks like the more achievable task in hand.

Can Trubisky Have A Repeat Performance?

The Bears are moving the ball just enough to beat bad teams, and Detroit is definitely in that category. Against the Giants, Chicago had 335 total yards in the 19-14 win. QB Mitch Trubisky threw for 278 yards and one touchdown. He also ran for another one.

Mitch turned the ball over twice, but at this point, the Bears are getting used to the fact that their quarterback is going to make a mistake or two. Their defense keeps them in the game just enough to make it work. That’s how they have beaten the Lions and Giants in two of the last three weeks.

The Detroit Lions’ Edge Vs. The Lions

Detroit has lost seven of their last eight games but going back home should help QB Jeff Driskel a lot. On Sunday, Driskel threw three interceptions in the 19-16 loss to the Washington Redskins. He looked completely different from the guy that threw for 209 yards and was responsible for three touchdowns against the Cowboys the previous week.

Going back to play inside a dome should help the Lions. Not only for Driskel but for the entire offense. Detroit ran for 175 rushing yards against Washington and somehow found a way to lose. The team is averaging 148.0 rushing yards in the last two weeks. That’s the way they should attack the Bears if they want to have a chance.

Talented Offense, Weak Coaching

The Lions have talent on offense. Danny Amendola, Marvin Jones Jr., Kenny Golladay, and T.J. Hockenson should be one of the most talented receiving corps in the league. Yet, Detroit has failed to put it all together.

The coaching is definitely a weakness, but it’s clear the talent on the offensive side is superior to anything than what the Bears have right now on that side.

Chicago Bears Vs. Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Prediction

Losing seven of their last eight is an explicit statement on how bad the Lions are playing right now. I have always seen HC Matt Patricia as an overrated coach, but even for his low standards, this is bad.

The game won’t be pretty, and winning this bet is not going to be a fun ride. It never is with Mitch Trubisky under center. But in the end, the Bears should deliver a win via their defense.

Khalil Mack is still balling despite the team’s bad record. Mack recorded a strip-sack against the Giants that eventually set the Bears in a scoring position. That’s how the Bears will win in Detroit as well. Bet Chicago -2.
