Clemson Tigers Vs Syracuse Orange - College Football Betting Odds & Prediction

Clemson Tigers at Syracuse Orange Betting Odds – NCAAF Week 3

Since Syracuse took down Clemson two seasons ago, their meetings have become a bit of a rivalry in the ACC.

When the Orange hosts the Tigers this weekend, they will need one of their best performances of the season just to stay in the game.

What the College Football Betting odds say about the matchup currently has Clemson as a 28-point favorite for this ACC meeting. When the betting line opened, the Tigers were a 26-point favorite.

That may move more as we approach kickoff.

The betting public is divided on this one

The betting public is surely divided on this one. 52% of the people are taking Clemson to cover the massive spread on the road.

The game total has also moved plenty. On Monday it was at 59 points, but now it is at its highest at 62.5 points.

What the Clemson Tigers bring to the Week 3 matchup

No surprise here. Clemson has overpowered their first two first opponents. First, Georgia Tech had no shot against them, and then Texas A&M struggled mightily to move the ball last week.

The Aggies ended up covering as a 17-point dog with a late touchdown in a 24-10 loss, as we told you it would.

The Tigers have been impressive running the football

But, something is missing in the passing game. The team is not where it wants to be. Heisman Trophy candidate Trevor Lawrence is taking unnecessary risks. Those have led to three interceptions against only two touchdowns in the first two weeks.

There is no room for an upset here, but Lawrence better gets his act together soon. He remains the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy listed at +275 at However, he hasn’t given us a Heisman performance yet.

Clemson needs to follow the script Maryland had last week against Syracuse. The Terrapins recorded 354 rushing yards and humiliated the Orange defense by pounding the ball early and often.

Both tailbacks Lyn-J Dixon and Travis Etienne should be the key for the Tigers in this one.

What the Syracuse Orange Bring To The Week 3 Matchup

Syracuse was destroyed by Maryland last week 60-23. The Orange defense allowed 650 total yards from the Terrapins and a 7.9 yards-per-carry average during the game.

When a team is pushed around like that, it destroys the entire mojo of the program. It’s going to take a serious effort against Clemson to avoid another embarrassing display. But I do expect a response.

Playing At Home Does Help Syracuse

The team beat the Tigers two years ago 27-24 in an upset not many saw it coming. Last season, the Orange went into Clemson and gave quite the battle, losing by four on the road.

After getting stomped by Maryland last week, I expect a better effort at home. The Orange offense did record 400 total yards against the Terrapins. The stat was lost in the narrative because Maryland was so impressive on the other side.

Last week Syracuse ended up throwing the ball for 330 yards in their attempt to get back into the game. I expect the Orange to get back to basics and run the football a lot more against Clemson.

Throwing the ball against the Tigers is a mistake, and Syracuse’s coach, Dino Babers, knows it.

Clemson vs. Syracuse NCAAF Week 3 Predictions

Syracuse loves to play Clemson. There is no competition about who is the better program, but the Orange match up well against the Tigers.

Coach Dino Babers doesn’t fear Dabo Swinney and his aggressive play calling. Instead, many would say Babers is in Swinney’s head.

The last two games between these two teams have been decided by seven points, and each has recorded a win. I don’t expect an outright upset but covering the spread as a 28-point favorite is hard to do even for Clemson; especially in what has become a rivalry game.

Has Lawrence Lost His Focus?

What worries me the most is Trevor Lawrence’s start of the season. Lawrence’s talent is there, but he doesn’t seem focused. It’s likely all the talk about the Heisman, and the possibility to be the NFL’s top pick in the 2021 draft has clouded his head.

Clemson is winning this game, but I see Syracuse scoring late to cover the spread as a 28-point home dog.
