What The NFL Odds Say About The Lions vs. Packers Week 6 Matchup

The Packers opened -6, but it didn’t take long for the line to drop. For most of the week, we could have found Green Bay -4.5.

Now it has settled at -4. It doesn’t look like it is going to move a lot from now and until the start of the game.

The total has also moved. It started at 46.5, and it was as high as 47.5 points, but it’s now back to 47.

The Detroit Lions’ Edge Against The Packers

I will be honest. Matt Patricia is one of my least favorite head coaches in the NFL. But credit the guy, he has done an excellent job with the Lions in the first month of the season.

Detroit has looked well-prepared, beating teams like the Chargers and Eagles. They barely lost to the Chiefs two weeks ago, and if not for a week one tie against the Cardinals, they would have been right there with the Packers on top of the division.

The Lions don’t do anything that is going to blow your mind, but they are learning not to beat themselves, something that is very easy for this franchise.

Over the last decade, Detroit has struggled to run the football.

This season their running game averages 120.5 rushing yards per game, and that has opened things for QB Matthew Stafford.

Two weeks ago, the Eagles ran all over the Packers in Lambeau Field, and that should be the goal for the Lions on Monday Night.

Solid Running Gives Stafford Freedom To Pass

With a solid running game in place, Stafford will have less pressure when throwing the football.

Stafford is not even inside the top 15 in terms of passing yards so far.

Yet, with nine TDs thrown, he only trails Russell Wilson, the season leader, by three TDs.

Keep in mind Matt Stafford has played one less game than most QBs as the Lions enjoyed their bye week last weekend.

The Green Bay Packers’ Edge Against The Lions

The Packers are the team with the most significant jump on the odds to win Super Bowl LIV. Green Bay was listed +2400 to bring the Lombardi Trophy home before the season started. Now after a 4-1 record, the oddsmakers at has them +1100.

Green Bay looks like a solid team on both sides of the ball, something that we haven’t seen over the last five years.

Their defense is for real, and other than the game against the Eagles, they have dominated opponents.

The Packers’ defense has been controlling the line of scrimmage.

The D-line has recorded 15 sacks this season, and the entire unit has forced 11 takeaways after five games. Only the New England Patriots are better in that department.

With a defense playing at that level, Aaron Rodgers has been asked to do just enough. He doesn’t have to carry the entire team like in past years.

Great O And D Combo, Few Turnovers

A combination of a solid defense and a quarterback that doesn’t turn the ball over makes the Packers a very complicated team to face.

Green Bay leads the NFL with a +7 turnover differential. That’s a sign of a team that is aiming for big things in 2019.

Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers NFL Week 6 Prediction

The Lions had two weeks to prepare for this game. Somehow they have won four straight against the Packers, but this is the best Green Bay team Aaron Rodgers have had in a long time.

Detroit is a tough team that has overachieved in the first month, but what’s the Lions’ ceiling? Perhaps a wildcard spot if things go their way. After all, they are a longshot to win the title at +6500.

On the other hand, the Packers are looking like a Super Bowl team. They have a well-balanced offense combined with an outstanding defense. This is a primetime game at home against a divisional opponent. Here’s where Rodgers makes a statement. Bet Packers -4.
