What Errol Spence Jr. Bring To The Fight

Spence is one of the sport’s most exciting young fighters. He is unbeaten in 25 fights and has 21 knockouts over that span. He won the IBF Championship in 2017 after defeating Kell Brook in his hometown of Sheffield, England.

Spence’s last fight was a decisive win by decision against Mikey Garcia. That fight was not nearly as competitive as some expected due to Spence’s dominance.

“The Truth” has a height and reach advantage over Shawn Porter. The southpaw fighter is a clear favorite on paper, with a 2 ½ inch edge both when it comes to reach and height.

Spence is two years younger than Porter, who is 31 years old. It’s tough to say that is much of an advantage since both of these fighters are in their prime.

What About Shawn Porter?

“Showtime” has a few blemishes on his record, but has been on quite the run leading up to this fight. Porter defeated Yordenis Ugas to give himself his title in his last bout.

The two losses he has on his record were against top fighters, Keith Thurman and Kell Brook. Overall, Porter has 29 wins, two losses, and a lone draw. He has 17 knockouts.

Porter has an orthodox style compared to the southpaw in Spence. The Akron-born fighter has a much lower KO percent compared to his opponent, 53% compared to 88%.

However, his recent form has been strong, and he has beaten some of some the best welterweight boxers in his last few fights.

Errol Spence Jr. Vs. Shawn Porter – Who Will Win?

Many believe that Spence has not been “tested,” but even if that’s the case, he is still easily one of the most talented fighters in the sport today.

“The Truth” is a true technician in the sport and has some extreme power. He can win a fight several different ways, including a knockout punch if the opportunity arises.

Many sharp bettors and boxing enthusiasts felt Mikey Garcia would give Spence a true challenge, but instead, Spence dominated the fight from start to finish and Garcia – who was previously undefeated – was lucky to avoid a knockout.

Spence Has Not Been Tested?

The narrative that Spence has not been tested is not one I am buying. The real question is if Porter is being underrated in this spot. And, that seems like a tough question to answer.

But, I have a firm opinion on it. He does have two losses against top -tier fighters but is in the best form of his career heading into this fight.

Still, Spence is easily the better fighter. But, at -990 there isn’t a ton of value when it comes to betting him. With that said, I still don’t think Shawn Porter has much of a chance beating Spence. So, even at +660, I don’t find his payout enticing.

Spence Is A Boxer With Great Fight IQ

Spence is a smart boxer who can make adjustments. He can easily jab his way to a victory in this fight and has a massive advantage when it comes to power. Style-wise this is a nightmare matchup for Porter and an excellent one for Spence.

Gun to my head, I play Errol Spence at -990. However, as we get closer, there will be some opportunities to get a lower price, such as picking Spence to win by knockout.

I am in the mind that this fight does not go the distance, but the odds are not yet out for the number of rounds. I think Spence wins and he knocks out Porter.
