Free 2018 NBA Playoffs Expert Picks: 76ers vs Celtics Prediction (Game 5)
There is only one game on the board for Wednesday night in the NBA. Boston and Philadelphia meet in Game 5 in Boston. Philadelphia is on the brink of elimination after falling 0-3 in the series. The game is on TNT at 8:00 PM on Wednesday. Here is my best bet for May 9. Odds can be found at BetOnline.
Philadelphia 76ers vs. Boston Celtics Predictions
The Boston Celtics finished the season in second place of the Eastern Conference. Boston was able to go 55-27 throughout the season, although the Celtics battled injuries all season long. Philadelphia finished the season on a 16-game winning streak, which allowed them to jump into the third seed in the Eastern Conference. The 76ers were 52-30 at the end of the season.
Boston won their Round 1 series in seven games against the Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks gave them a run for their money but were not able to come out with the win in Game 7. Philadelphia beat Miami in five games in the first round.
Game 1 was held in Boston on April 30. The Celtics were able to deliver a victory to their home crowd. Joel Embiid scored 31 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the 76ers in points. J.J. Redick scored 20 points, but it was not enough to beat Boston. Terry Rozier, Jayson Tatum and Al Horford each scored over 25 points in route to a 117-101 victory.
Boston was able to win 108-103 in Game 2 to take a 2-0 series lead. J.J. Redick, Robert Covington and Joel Embiid each scored over 20 points to help keep the 76ers in the game. Jayson Tatum and Terry Rozier dropped 21 and 20 points respectively to help guide the Celtics to victory.
Philadelphia 76ers -1 (-105) at Boston Celtics +1 (-115) Betting Odds
Game 3 of this series was arguably the best matchup. Philadelphia hosted the game and were able to force overtime. The Celtics once again were able to come out on top though. Boston won 101-98. Tatum scored 24 points to lead the Celtics in points. Embiid got another double-double with 22 points and 19 rebounds.
The most recent game in this series was Game 4, in which Philadelphia was finally able to pull off a victory. Tatum led the Celtics in points with 20. Dario Saric led the 76ers in points with 25, which helped lead them to a 103-92 victory.
The 76ers are favored on the road in this matchup, which is very odd for a team down three games to one. Philadelphia lost both games in Boston but won the most recent matchup. Philadelphia does offer the better payout on the bet, which is right if you are laying points on the road.
While Boston has been the better team overall in the series, Philadelphia put up a very convincing performance in Game 4. The 76ers could carry some of that momentum into Game 5. Philadelphia need Joel Embiid to continue to play big in these games. The biggest thing Philadelphia needs if they are going to keep the series going is a better showing from Ben Simmons. Simmons has been very quiet in the series so far, which needs to change soon. I believe the 76ers carry some of Game 4’s momentum into Game 5 and extend the series.
