Boston Celtics Vs. Cleveland Cavaliers Prediction
The Celtics hold a 2-0 series lead heading into Game 3 against Cleveland. Boston finished the regular season with a 55-27 record, which was good enough to put them in second place of the Eastern Conference. Boston beat the Milwaukee Bucks in seven games in the first round. The Celtics then went on to beat the Philadelphia 76ers in five games in the second round.
Cleveland went 50-32 in the regular season, which earned them the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference. The Cavaliers struggled to beat the Indiana Pacers in the first round. It took Cleveland seven games to get past Victor Oladipo and the Pacers, but they carried that momentum into the second round. The second round put the Toronto Raptors up against the Cavaliers and Cleveland won that series in a four-game sweep.
Boston and Cleveland’s Game 1 matchup was back on May 13 in Boston. The Celtics put on a show for their home crowd as they jumped out to a 36-18 lead after the first period. Boston went on to win 108-83. Kevin Love led the Cavs in points with 17. Jaylen Brown, Marcus Morris and Al Horford each scored more than 20 points in the win.
Game 2 was a much more interesting matchup. The Cavaliers held a seven point lead at halftime, but the Celtics outscored Cleveland 36-22 in the fourth quarter in route to the win. Boston ended up with a 107-94 win. Lebron James scored 42 points, had 12 assists and 10 rebounds, but it was not enough for Cleveland. Jaylen Brown scored 23 points and five other Celtics players had double digit points in the win.
Boston Celtics +6 ½ (-115) Vs. Cleveland Cavaliers -6 ½ (-105)
The Celtics injury list would make most people think that there is no way that Boston can continue to win in the playoffs. Boston is without Gordan Hayward, Kyrie Irving, Shane Larkin and Daniel Theis, but the Celtics continue to win. Larkin is the only player on that list to play in this season’s playoffs. Marcus Smart is probable for Game 3 for Boston. The Cavaliers are injury free.
The odds have Cleveland listed at a money line of -285 with a 6 ½ point spread. Those odds imply that the Cavaliers would win this game 74 percent of the time. That number seems shocking to me because Cleveland is down 2-0 in the series. I believe the odds should have this game much closer.
I think the Cavaliers are going to win Game 3. When a team returns home in a series down 2-0, the home team usually pulls the series to 2-1. Cleveland has struggled against the Celtics, but in front of their home crowd, it will be much different. I do not think the Cavaliers win this game in an absolute blowout though. Boston has not gone away easily, and I believe that will continue into Game 3. I am taking the Celtics with the points.
