Philadelphia Phillies vs. Washington Nationals Predictions
Stephen Strasburg will take the mound for the Nationals in game one of this series. Strasburg has had his fair share of struggles this year especially after he returned from the injury he suffered. So far, he is posting a record of 6-7 and has an ERA of 4.23. His last outing was against Phillies at home where he went only 4.0 innings and allowed 7 hits, and 5 earned runs. He ended up getting a no-decision but still struggled mightily against the Phillies lineup.
Even though Washington is sitting 8.5 games back in the division and 7.5 games back in the wild card, they are still pushing to have a season over .500 and will be looking to make a late push for the playoffs. Either way, they do not want to lose to a division rival and see them inch closer to a playoff spot.
The Phillies will start Zach Eflin in game one of this series. He has posted a 9-4 record and his ERA is 3.93. Strangely enough, Eflin last pitched against Strasburg and the Nationals, so this is a rematch of sorts. In that last game, Eflin only managed to pitch 3.1 innings. He allowed 10 hits and 5 runs, 4 of which were earned runs. A concerning number for Eflin is the fact that he only struck out 2 batters in this outing. The Phillies are chasing the Braves right now, and are down 3 games in the division, meaning they will need much more production out of their young right-hander if they plan on catching the Braves.
With the Braves having an off day, this is a perfect opportunity for the Phillies to gain some ground, which they should do given how they hit Strasburg last time.
