Cleveland Cavaliers vs Los Angeles Lakers Predictions
The Cavaliers enter the night in the third spot in the Eastern Conference. Cleveland has struggled by their usual standards but have still managed to go 38-27. Los Angeles has struggled again this season. The Lakers have gone 29-36, which has put them in eleventh place of the Western Conference.
The Lakers and Cavaliers met once earlier in the season on December 14. Cleveland hosted the matchup and won the game 121-112. Brandon Ingram dropped twenty-six for the Lakers. Kyle Kuzma scored twenty off the bench. Kevin Love scored twenty-eight points and grabbed eleven rebounds. LeBron James scored twenty-five points, grabbed twelve rebounds and dished out twelve assists. Both teams have changed significantly since this matchup, so it will be interesting to see how it plays out this time around.
Rodney Hood, Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson are all looking like they will be out for Sunday night’s matchup. The Lakers are without Channing Frye, Josh Hart and Brandon Ingram on Sunday. Both teams have some injury issues but will need to overcome them for a victory.
Isaiah Thomas has been averaging fifteen and a half points per game since joining the Lakers. Thomas has been coming off the bench, but that could change for Sunday’s matchup against his former team. Kyle Kuzma and Julius Randle have been averaging fifteen points per game as well. Lonzo Ball, who was Los Angeles big pickup in the draft, has been averaging close to eleven points per game with seven rebounds and seven assists.
Cleveland Cavaliers -2 ½ (-105) at Los Angeles Lakers +2 ½ (-115)
LeBron James has been carrying the Cavaliers throughout this season. James averages twenty-seven points, eight rebounds and nine assists. Jordan Clarkson, who came over in the same trade that Thomas left on, has been averaging thirteen points per game since joining the Cavs. The Cavaliers have been trying to build a supporting cast around James since the trade deadline and it has been streaky. The Cavaliers will look to start a winning streak on Sunday night.
The Lakers enter the night after winning six of their last eight games. Los Angeles has been turning it on as of late to try and make one last playoff push. It will be difficult to accomplish that, but a win against the Cavaliers would help. Cleveland has lost three of their last five games. One of those losses was on Friday night to the Los Angeles Clippers. The Cavaliers will be looking to avenge that loss by beating the other team from LA.
Cleveland is a two-and-a-half-point favorite in this matchup. I believe the Cavaliers have a good opportunity to win this game. On top of that, the Cavaliers have the better payout in this matchup. All these things make me believe Cleveland is the best bet in this matchup.
