The NBA schedule has four games on Sunday. With eight teams playing, their will likely be some excitement. Cleveland visiting Washington highlights the schedule, but there will be action in the other games as well. Here are my best bets for December 17. Orlando Magic vs Detroit Pistons Prediction
The Pistons come back home after a two-game road trip. Detroit lost their last three at home, but were able to win both games on the road trip. The Pistons are 16-13 on the season. Orlando enters the night at 11-19. The Magic have lost four straight since beating the Hawks in overtime.
Avery Bradley missed the last game for the Pistons and he might miss Sunday’s game as well. Jon Leuer is also likely to miss the game for Detroit. Evan Fournier and Terrence Ross are out for Sunday’s game. Aaron Afflalo, Aaron Gordan, and Jonathan Isaac are all questionable for the Magic.
This game could turn into a battle of the big men on Sunday night. Detroit’s lineup is highlighted with Andre Drummond. Drummond is averaging around fourteen points, fifteen rebounds and four assists. He is also averaging two steals and one block per game. Drummond will be matched up against Nikola Vucevic. Vucevic is averaging about eighteen points, ten rebounds and three assists. Both big men will see plenty of each other on Sunday night. It will be exciting to see who gets the edge for their respective team. The Pistons have been a solid defensive team this season. Detroit forces the fifth most turnovers per game. They also average the ninth most steals per game. Detroit could be without a solid defensive anchor in Avery Bradley though. Detroit likes to play rotation defense, but that could be an issue if Bradley misses the game.
Tobias Harris leads the Pistons in points per game with about eighteen. Bradley is second with around sixteen. Reggie Jackson is just behind Bradley with fifteen. The Magic rely more heavily on their starters to score than most teams. Aaron Gordan, Evan Fournier and Nikola Vucevic average about eighteen points per game for the Magic. Jonathan Simmons averages about fifteen points, while Elfrid Payton puts up about ten points per game.
Orlando Magic +10 ½ (-110) at Detroit Pistons -10 ½ (-110)
The Pistons jumped out to a 14-6 record but lost seven in a row. Detroit has won two in a row since that losing streak but it showed many of the Piston’s flaws. In the Pistons sixteen total wins, they would not have covered ten and a half points in eleven of them. In their last five losses, the Magic would have covered that spread three times.
Both teams are entering the night with serious injury problems, but the Pistons remain the better team. Even though the Pistons are the better team, ten and a half points is a lot to lay even at home. I believe the Pistons will pull off the victory, but the Magic will cover.
