Free NFL Divisional Playoffs Expert Picks – Falcons vs Eagles Predictions
This one would have a bit more fanfare if Carson Wentz were still under center for the Eagles, but he was lost late in the regular season with a torn MCL. Still, one of these teams is moving on, and with the Falcons playing better football and the spread close – this will be one to watch. Atlanta Falcons vs. Philadelphia Eagles Prediction
The Falcons shocked much of the football world last week as they easily took care of the home-favored, Los Angeles Rams. Atlanta held the league’s highest-scoring offense in check, limiting them to their second-lowest point total of the season in the 26-13 victory. The Falcons came out of the game without any injury issues. Julio Jones has sat out two days of practice this week, but he is fully expected to play. Devonta Freeman and Mohamed Sanu are also on the injury and have been limited, but are also not in any real danger of missing.
Philadelphia had a first-round bye last week, and the starters only played a few drives. They ended up losing an extremely low scoring game to Dallas, by a score of 6-0. The loss pushed their season-long win total to 13-3, but they still have home-field advantage throughout the postseason. Other than losing Wentz, the Eagles haven’t had much in the form of devastating injuries. Running back, Jay Ajayi is still on the injury report with a knee injury but has practiced in full this week.
Betting Action – Odds On The Falcons
It’s quite rare to see No. 1 seeded team as a home underdog in the divisional round, but that is the oddsmakers’ view of Wentz’s value. Atlanta opened at -2.5 with the public betting on them early and the odds have moved to -3 at most sportsbooks, but, at the number, the Eagles have all the vig. At BetOnline, Philly is currently +3 -115.
The total has seen a drop from the opening number of 43.5 points to 41 points. Betting action has come in slightly more on the over, but sharp money has pushed the number lower.
Atlanta Falcons -3 (-105) At Philadelphia Eagles +3 (-115)
Full disclosure, I placed a bet on the Falcons at -2.5 (-110), but I am now rethinking my position. There is also a great middling opportunity if the odds move to Eagles +3.5 to hit both bets. That may or may not happen, but I would say it’s unlikely.
In this article, at this number, I will advocate for the Eagles. However, I do think that the Falcons defense is hugely underrated, but it’s tough to say the Eagles are not worth a +3 bet against a team that has struggled with inconsistency on the road and is facing a good defense. Atlanta’s indoor and outdoor splits, historically, are also quite stark. Ryan can lay eggs, even against average defenses. There’s enough value at +3 to bet Philly, even with the massive downgrade from Wentz to Foles.
