After winning in one of the lowest scoring playoff games in history, the Jaguars travel to Heinz Field to take on the Steelers for a chance to advance to the AFC Championship. These two teams met back in Week 5, where visiting Jacksonville sprung an upset against Pittsburgh, winning 30-9 and forcing Ben Roethlisberger into five interceptions. Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Prediction
Jacksonville took care of the Bills last week to win one of the lowest scoring games in NFL history. They managed a lone touchdown in the 10-3 victory and Bortles led Jaguars in rushing with 88 yards. He ended up rushing for one more yard than he produced through the air against Buffalo, as he threw for just 87 yards and a touchdown.
Cornerback Jalen Ramsey has surfaced on the injury with a sore Achilles. He will suit up for Sunday’s game, but may not be at full strength. The Jaguars have depended on cornerback tandem of Ramsey and A.J. Bouye for much of their success this season, so this injury news is significant.
Pittsburgh rested their starters in Week 17 and are coming off a first-round bye. They still managed to defeat the Browns while playing lots of backups and finished the season with a 13-3 record. They’re the No. 2 seed in the AFC. The Steelers don’t have much on the injury front, aside from a mid-week issue with cornerback, Artie Burns. Burns left Wednesday practice with a non-contact injury is now questionable to play after not practicing Thursday. He may be closer to doubtful. He has been just average this season, but his loss would hurt, as Pittsburgh would have to go with third-round rookie, Cam Sutton, who has only played 113 snaps all season.
Betting Action – Odds On The Steelers
Bettors have backed Pittsburgh so far, with over 60 percent of tickets coming on the home team. They opened at -7, but moved to -7.5 and -8, at some sports, before going back to -7 at most sportsbooks. However, some, like SportsBetting.ag have them at -7.5 +110 with the Jaguars sitting at +7.5 +130. The total has stayed at 41 at most sportsbooks but is at 41.5 as of this writing at some. Betting action on the total has been split on both sides.
Jacksonville Jaguars +7.5 (-130) at Pittsburgh Steelers -7.5 (+110)
Much of the talk this week will surround Bortles’ awful game against the Bills and Pittsburgh’s “revenge” narrative after their blowout loss to Jacksonville in the regular season. However, if we break this game down – there’s a side that has a clear edge with the point spread. Pittsburgh’s offense is explosive, but this is an extremely tough matchup for Big Ben, and Co. Jacksonville already showed they could shut them down and guaranteed success against this defense is not something that is guaranteed to any team, even with all their talent.
Bortles looked awful last week, but he gets a decent draw this week, even if the Steelers stack the box and force him to throw. Pittsburgh’s secondary has been their weak spot all year. With Burns out, they’re even more vulnerable. I like Jacksonville getting a touchdown down or more in this game and have a slight lean on the over 41 points. Although, SportsBetting.ag’s price of -130 +7.5 is not ideal. There may be better options at other sites, but +7 with -110 or lower vig is the better move than paying -130 at +7.5.
Pick: Jaguars +7.5
