Free NFL Thursday Night Expert Picks - Falcons Vs Eagles Prediction

We made it! Yes, we made to another NFL season. The offseason is long gone, and preseason is finally finished – it’s time for Week 1. The defending champion, Philadelphia Eagles, will host the Atlanta Falcons as we kickoff the 2018 season. The game will be played at Lincoln Financial Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 PM EST. The game will be broadcasted on NBC. Our odds below are from SportsBetting.ag Sportsbook. Deposit today for a 50% Welcome Bonus up to $1,000 on your first deposit.

Philadelphia comes into the game a bit short-handed. Nick Foles, coming off his MVP season, will make the start at quarterback with Carson Wentz still a week or two away after suffering tears of his MCL and ACL, last season. Dough Pederson announcing Foles would start Week 1 was the worst kept secret of the past two weeks. They will also be without a wide receiver, Alshon Jeffery, who is expected to miss at least the first two weeks of the season before returning. Nelson Agholor and Mike Wallace will take the top two receiving roles in his absence.

Atlanta was ultimately the team that gave Eagles the toughest time in the NFC playoffs last season as they nearly beat the Eagles on the final play of the game. Instead, Matt Ryan couldn’t connect with Julio Jones and Philadelphia went on to win 15-10. The rest is history. Falcons are mostly unchanged from a year ago. They had a contract dispute with Julio Jones in the offseason, but that was resolved a few weeks before the season began.

They drafted Calvin Ridley in the 1st round of the draft, but he has not impressed to beat out Mohammed Sanu for the No. 2 receiving role. Atlanta comes into this one far healthier than the Eagles. There have been some significant names limited throughout the preseason, but all key players on both sides of the ball will be out there for the Falcons tonight.

Betting Action – Odds On The Eagles

Initially, the odds opened with the Eagles a -4 favorite in this game. That moved to -3.5, then -3.0 and now -2.5. This is obviously a big move through the key number of three points. Bettors have favored the Falcons in this one. It looks like two-thirds of all bets are coming against the defending Super Bowl champions. The total opened at 45.5 points and hadn’t seen much movement compared to the spread. Most sites have the total at 45 or 45.5 points. As of this writing, several betting sites have higher than -110 vigorish on the under.

Atlanta Falcons vs Philadephia Prediction

This is a tough one to predict at the current number. I lean towards the Falcons in this game, but it’s a spot where bettors may want to lay off unless they have gotten the +4, +3.5, or +3. There is indeed a chance that as we get closer to game time, those numbers become available again, but grabbing the Falcons at +2.5 doesn’t make much sense. If you genuinely want to take the Falcons, then waiting until closer to game time is the play.

Philadelphia has not looked good in the preseason. Yes, I realize it’s the preseason, but Foles got plenty of work with the first team offense, and they seemed entirely out of sorts, even against inferior opponents. Furthermore, their biggest weapon and field stretcher on offense, Alshon Jeffery, will miss this one. Agholor and Wallace are not a combination that scares most defensive backfields, especially against an experience Falcons’ secondary.

I hate to use their playoff game from last season as a reason why the Falcons can win this game, but I am going to, anyway. Atlanta comes into this game healthier and with a better roster than they did a year ago – I can’t say the same for the Eagles.
