Free NFL Week 13 Expert Picks: Buccaneers vs Packers Prediction
Tampa Bay Buccaneers +2.5 at Green Bay Packers -2.5 Total: 45
This one isn’t especially important for playoff implications, but there is a solid betting opportunity in this one that I think the market is currently undervaluing. The Packers have slim playoff hopes if they can run the table the rest of the way until they get Aaron Rodgers back, which may happen in Week 16. Tampa is last in the division but will return quarterback, Jameis Winston, this week. All odds from this article are from SportsBetting.ag.
The Buccaneers – Playing for Next Season
It’s been a rough year in Tampa, for a team that many considered a dark horse pick from the NFC to get to the Super Bowl. It’s been three games since Winston played due to a sprained shoulder, but he will return this week in a pristine matchup against a weak Packers’ secondary.
The Buccaneers are far removed from the playoff picture, after falling at Atlanta last week 34-20, which dropped their record to 4-7 on the season. Still, they’re mostly healthy, aside from running back, Doug Martin, who will miss this week with a concussion.
The Packers – Waiting for Aaron
Green Bay has been trying to tread water awaiting Rodgers’ return, which would be Week 15, at the earliest. However, Packers’ linebacker, Clay Matthews, who missed last week with an injury has speculated that he could have returned sooner and the team should have kept him off injured reserve.
The Packers are likely out of the playoff picture as is, but another loss would almost certainly doom them, regardless if Rodgers comes back healthy. They played valiantly last week at Pittsburgh as +14 underdogs but ultimately lost in the final seconds to a late Pittsburgh field goal. The 31-28 defeat dropped their record to 5-6.
Betting Action – Odds On Packers
Bettors have taken a liking to the Packers throughout the week with over 80 percent of tickets coming in on the home team. They originally opened at -1.5 but are now at -2.5 at most sportsbooks. The total opened at 43 points, but have jumped up to 45 or 45.5 depending on where you look.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Green Bay Packers Prediction
Even at 45 points, this total is far too low considering the poor quality of the defenses and the weapons that both teams have offensively. Hundley looked like the worst quarterback in the league a few weeks ago but has looked more than competent in the past few weeks, especially against Pittsburgh defense that is ranked highly in just about every statistical category. Winston being back in the fold gives the offense a massive upgrade. Mike Evans is now Mike Evans again, and all the ancillary pieces get a significant upgrade, as well.
With injury issues to both backfields, I expect both teams to rely on the pass a bit more, which also bodes well for scoring. Both sides have massively struggled to defend the pass, and the potential for big plays is massive. The total has already gone up and could be a few points higher by the time Sunday rolls around.
