Free NHL Bets and Picks: New Jersey Devils Travel to Vancouver to Continue Hot Start
The first month of the hockey season has come and gone. The Golden Knights shocked the NHL community with a strong start, while the Coyotes struggled to win a game. The second month brings new life to some teams, and others will struggle. Wednesday offers a variety of five games. Here are my free NHL picks for November 1. Odds can be found at BetOnline.
New Jersey Devils (+109) at Vancouver Canucks (-120)
The New Jersey Devils have begun the new season with an impressive 8-2 record. The Canucks have also put up a solid 6-3-2 record. Both teams were expected to have rough seasons this year, but they have proved otherwise. The new month brings up the question, will either team maintain the surprising success? This game will begin to tell will either team continues its successful streak.
Vancouver was on a four-game winning streak before losing to the Stars on Monday night. A big reason why they lost was because Brock Boeser was missing from the lineup. Boeser leads the team in points with two goals and seven assists through eight games. Boeser will likely miss another game against the Devils.
The Devils have been led by Taylor Hall and rookies Will Butcher and Jesper Bratt. Hall has put up thirteen points on the new season. Butcher and Bratt have been the most impressive though. Butcher has eleven points and Bratt has ten points, which has helped lead the team to the strong start.
Butcher and Bratt are not even all the young stars the Devils have. Pavel Zacha and last draft’s first overall selection Nico Hischier are also expected to help turn the franchise around. If the young stars continue to play strong, the Devils can continue their hot start against the Canucks.
Cory Schneider has put up a .909 save percentage and a GAA of 3.26. The Devils and Schneider both know that those numbers will need to improve for the Devils to be a strong team. On the Canucks side, Jacob Markstrom has put up a .911 save percentage and a 2.41 GAA. Schneider and Markstrom are expected to start tomorrow night’s game.
New Jersey Devils vs Vancouver Canucks Prediction
If the Devils continue to get solid scoring and Schneider can play a good game, the Devils should be able to beat the Canucks. The young talent on the Devils give them both a big play ability as well as speed. I believe the Devils are the better pick as road underdogs coming off a three-day break.
Nashville Predators (+111) at San Jose Sharks (-122)
The Predators enter this game after losing to the Islanders last Saturday. The Sharks ruined Patrick Marleau’s homecoming on Monday night, as they beat the Maple Leafs. Now both teams will try to improve upon less than perfect starts.
Nashville enters the game at 5-4-2, the Predators will need to be more successful as they start a four-game road trip. The Sharks are in the midst of a five-game homestand, the Sharks have gone 6-5 on the season. San Jose has a 3-3 record at home this season.
Both teams have had serious success on special teams. Nashville’s power play sits at an impressive 24.29 percent. They will face San Jose’s 88.37 percent penalty kill. On the other side the Sharks have a 20.45 percent power play, the Predators will challenge them with an 83.02 percent penalty kill. Whichever team can break through on the power play, will have a good chance to succeed in the matchup.
Goaltending has been a strength for both teams. Pekka Rinne has posted a .940 save percentage and a 1.86 GAA. The Sharks starting goaltender, Martin Jones, has a .925 save percentage and a GAA of 2.27. Goaltending will be another tight battle throughout the matchup, but if the numbers prove anything, it is that Nashville has the edge.
The Predators are still looking for Ryan Johansen to score his first goal on the new season. The Sharks have not been consistent this season. The Sharks are also looking for Brent Burns to score his first goal as well. Both teams will be trying to fix their problems in the second month of the season, starting in this game.
Nashville Predators vs San Jose Sharks Prediction
The Sharks and Predators have not met this season, but I expect it to be an exciting matchup. If Nashville can start to get more production from Johansen and Rinne can continue to put up his numbers, the Predators will come out on top.
