Columbus Blue Jackets vs Buffalo Sabres Predictions
The Sabres and Blue Jackets will play for the third time this season on Thursday night. Buffalo enters the night as the second worst team in the NHL. The Sabres have gone 10-24-9 this season. Columbus is second place in the Metropolitan Division. The Blue Jackets are 25-16-3 this season.
The first meeting between these two teams was hosted in Columbus. Seth Jones led the way for the Blue Jackets with a goal and an assist. Columbus coasted to a 5-1 victory. Chad Johnson allowed five goals on thirty-eight shots, while Sergei Bobrovsky allowed one goal on thirty-five shots.
The second meeting between these teams was in Buffalo. This matchup was much closer, but the result was the same. The Blue Jackets won 3-2, which was led by Markus Nutivaara’s two points. Sergei Bobrovsky had another great game. He stopped thirty of thirty-two shots. Robin Lehner played in this game for Buffalo. He allowed three goals on twenty-nine shots. Jack Eichel is the point leader for Buffalo this season. Eichel has scored seventeen goals and added twenty-two assists. Evander Kane is closely behind with thirty-five points and sixteen goals. Ryan O’Reilly rounds out the top three with twenty-nine points. Those three players will need to lead the charge for Buffalo in Thursday’s matchup.
Columbus Blue Jackets (-155) at Buffalo Sabres (+140)
The Blue Jackets point leader has been Artemi Panarin. He has put up thirty-six points and eleven goals. Seth Jones has seven goals and twenty-one assists. Oliver Bjorkstrand is third on the team with twenty-six points. The Blue Jackets do not rely on a certain group of guys for most of their points. Instead, Columbus can have any line step up in any game.
Sergei Bobrovsky will likely start again versus Buffalo. Bobrovsky has allowed a GAA of 2.40 and a save percentage .922. Bobrovsky has played great all season for the Blue Jackets. Robin Lehner has a save percentage of .910 and a GAA of 2.94 this season. Lehner is expected to be in net for the Sabres. He will need to outplay Bobrovsky if he wants to get the win for Buffalo. While this is no easy task for any goaltender, I believe that if Lehner can get some support from his defense he can pull it off.
The Buffalo Sabres have lost five-straight games coming into this matchup. Two of those five losses came at home. The Sabres are listed as a +140 underdog on Thursday night. This losing streak will eventually come to an end and I believe there is a good chance it happens on Thursday night. Buffalo’s top line can score the puck somewhat consistently. If they can put up a solid game, they will have a chance. As this big of an underdog at home, I believe Buffalo is worth your bet.
