Washington Capitals vs Boston Bruins Prediction
This game will be the second matchup between these two teams this season. The Capitals have been on a surge recently and they now find themselves on top of the Metropolitan Division. Washington has gone 19-12-1. Washington has won eight of their last ten. Boston sits comfortably in third place in the Atlantic Division. The Bruins are 14-9-4 this season.
The first matchup between these two teams was also held in Boston. Washington won the game 3-2. Tom Wilson and Alex Ovechkin each scored a goal to put the Capitals up 2-0 at the end of the first. David Pastrnak made it a one-goal game, but Wilson scored his second goal of the game to give the Capitals a 3-1 lead. Pastrnak scored his second of the game late in the third period, but it was not enough. Washington has been led by Evgeny Kuznetsov and Alex Ovechkin this season.
Kuznetsov has led the team in points with thirty-four. Ten of those points were goals. Ovechkin leads the team with twenty-one goals. He has also added twelve assists. Nicklas Backstrom has twenty-five points, which puts him third on the team. T.J. Oshie and John Carlson are tied for fourth with twenty-three points.
David Pastrnak is the leader for the Bruins in both points and goals. Pastrnak has fourteen goals and twenty-seven points. Brad Marchand is second on the team in goals and points. He has eleven goals and twenty-three points. Besides those two players, no other Bruin has broken the twenty-point mark this season. The Capitals have much more firepower and the Bruins will need to account for that if they want to get the win at home.
Washington Capitals (+109) at Boston Bruins (-120)*
Braden Holtby will likely get the start for Washington. Holtby has a .918 save percentage and a GAA of 2.64. Holtby has been solid in net all season for the Capitals, and he has been even better during the Capitals ten-game run. Anton Khudobin could get the start for Boston because they are on a back to back. Khudobin has posted a .922 save percentage and a 2.53 GAA.
Boston played in Detroit last night, which could be bad news for the Bruins. Teams can often struggle on the second game of a back to back. Up against the Capitals, it could be even harder for the Bruins. Even with a night in between, the Capitals could still beat the Bruins. Boston will not get an easy win on Thursday night.
Washington has a +109 money line. This implies the Capitals will win this game only forty-eight percent of the time. I believe that Washington is the better team in this game and they should be the favorite. The Capitals are facing a tired Bruins team. As a road underdog in this situation, I like the Capitals.
