Anaheim Ducks vs St. Louis Blues Prediction
St. Louis is one of the top teams in the NHL this season. The Blues have gone 21-9-2. Anaheim has struggled early this season. The Ducks have gone 13-11-7. Both teams have run into injury problems as of recently though.
The Blues and Ducks met once earlier this season in St. Louis. Anaheim pulled off the upset by a score of 3-2. Antoine Vermette scored twice and Kevin Roy added one as the Ducks led 3-0 after two periods. In the third period though, Kyle Brodziak scored twice in the last five minutes to make it look close. Overall though, the Ducks mostly dominated the Blues.
The Ducks have been battling injuries all season long. Corey Perry, Ryan Kesler, and Patrick Eaves are all out for an extended period. Nick Ritchie, Hampus Lindholm, Mike Liambas and Joseph Blandisi are all questionable for Thursday night’s matchup. The Blues have also had injury issues as of recently. St. Louis has Jaden Schwartz, Alex Pietrangelo, Zachary Sanford and Carter Hutton all on the injured reserve list. Robby Fabbri is out for the entire season with a torn ACL. Jay Bouwmeester is questionable for Thursday night’s game.
Jake Allen is likely to get the start for the Blues on Thursday night. Allen will have relied on even more now as the Blues try to fix the holes that Schwartz and Pietrangelo have left on the depth chart. Allen has posted a .913 save percentage and a 2.52 GAA. The Blues called up Jordan Binnington on Wednesday and sent Ville Husso back to the minors.
Anaheim Ducks (+132) at St. Louis Blues (-146)
John Gibson is expected to start for the Ducks. Gibson has a .921 save percentage on the season and a GAA of 2.91. Gibson has been the one consistent piece for the Ducks and they need that to continue if they want to beat the Blues again. Ryan Miller could start and if he does it would not be a bad thing for Ducks fans. Miller has been a great backup this season. He has a .945 save percentage and a 1.73 GAA in eight games played.
St. Louis has a -146 money line. The Blues are expected to win this game around sixty percent of the time. I believe the Ducks are a better team than this line gives them credit for. The Ducks have made lots of adjustments throughout the season, and they have been able to stay in the playoff race. The Blues have recently run into injury problems. The Blues could have difficulty finding the right changes to make. With a more solid goaltending team, the Ducks have a real chance to pull the upset off.
