Carolina Hurricanes vs Anaheim Ducks Prediction
The Hurricanes continue their Western Conference road trip against the Ducks on Monday night. Carolina enters the night at 11-10-7. The Hurricanes are tied for last place in the Metropolitan Division. Anaheim enters the night at 12-11-7. The Ducks went to the Western Conference Finals last year. Both teams are looking for a spark to get back on the right track.
These two teams met early in the season on October 29. The game was in Carolina, but the Ducks won 4-3 in a shootout. Anaheim jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but the Hurricanes scored three unanswered. The Ducks tied it up late in the third and Corey Perry won it in the shootout.
Carolina has lost five of their last six, three of those losses came in overtime. The Ducks are the same way. Anaheim has lost three of their last four games, all coming in overtime. The Ducks have been dealing with injury issues for most of this season. Anaheim might be getting good news though as Jakob Silverberg, Hampus Lindholm, Mike Liambas and Joseph Blandisi could all be returning against the Hurricanes. Anaheim should be getting Ryan Kesler and Ryan Getzlaf back in mid-December.
John Gibson is expected to get the start for the Ducks. Gibson has been playing well this year, especially with the struggle the Ducks have been having with injuries and such. Gibson has a .920 save percentage and a GAA of 2.96. Scott Darling is expected to be the goalie on the opposite side of the ice. Darling has posted a .900 save percentage and 2.70 GAA. Both goalies are going to be challenged in Monday night’s game.
Carolina Hurricanes (+100) at Anaheim Ducks (-110)
The Ducks have been able to maintain solid special teams even with the constant moving of players. Anaheim has scored on 17.78 percent of their power play opportunities. As for defensive special teams, the Ducks have stopped 82.79 percent of opponent’s power play chances.
Carolina has not been able to be quite as successful on special teams. The Hurricanes have only scored on 16.30 percent of their man advantages. Carolina’s penalty kill has not been much better either. They have only been able to kill off 75.36 percent of the penalties against them.
Anaheim not only has home ice advantage in this game, but they have the better goaltender and special teams. If the Ducks could get some of their players back it would help tremendously as well. Anaheim is a -110 money line, which suggests they would win this game only fifty-two percent of the time. I believe they are better than that money line suggests. That is why I really like the Ducks for this pick.
