New York Islanders vs Boston Bruins Prediction
The Bruins enter Saturday night’s matchup on a recent tear. Boston has won seven of their last nine. Boston has been crawling back into playoff contention, they now sit a 13-9-4. The Islanders finish a four-game road trip in Boston on Saturday night. The Islanders have gone 1-1-1 in the first three games of this road trip. Their losses came to Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh. On the season New York is 16-9-3. The Islanders are in a four-way tie for the second-place position in the Metropolitan Division.
The Islanders have had the second-best scoring offense in the league. John Tavares and Josh Bailey lead the team with thirty-one points each. Tavares has seventeen goals to lead the team in that category. Anders Lee, Matthew Barzal, Nick Leddy and Jordan Eberle have all passed the twenty-point mark on the season. Barzal is making a statement as he is in competition for the Calder Trophy this year. New York’s offense could post big numbers again on Saturday night.
Boston’s offense has not been great, especially in comparison to the Islanders. David Pastrnak leads the team in goals and points with fourteen and twenty-five. Brad Marchand is the only other player to break the twenty-point mark. Marchand has twenty-two points. Patrice Bergeron has had an off season so far. Bergeron has done alright, getting seventeen points in twenty-one games. Against one of the league’s most lethal offenses, the Bruins could be in trouble if they find themselves in a high scoring affair.
New York Islanders (+126) at Boston Bruins (-139)
Thomas Greiss is expected to be in net for the Islanders on Saturday night. Greiss has posted a .890 save percentage and a GAA of 3.79. Greiss has not been great for the Islanders, but could have a successful night against a sputtering offense. Jaroslav Halak has been better in net. Halak has a .903 save percentage and a 2.99 GAA. Whoever gets the start will need to be better than their average.
Tuukka Rask is expected to get the start for the Bruins. Rask has had his share of struggles, but still has posted better numbers than both Islanders goaltenders. Rask has a .908 save percentage and a 2.52 GAA. Rask will get tested against the Islanders offense on Saturday. As a -139 money line, the Bruins are given a fifty-eight percent chance to win this. The Bruins have seen recent success, but they have struggled scoring consistently. I like the Islanders chance to come into Boston and pull off the upset on Saturday night.
