Edmonton Oilers (+172) at Vegas Golden Knights (-191)

The Oilers and Golden Knights have their second meeting of the season on Saturday night. Edmonton is coming off a win the night before against the Arizona Coyotes. That win boosted the Oilers up to 19-23-3. Edmonton has struggled early in the season, but are trying to battle their way back into playoff contention. Vegas leads the Pacific Division with a 29-10-2 record. The Golden Knights are coming an extended break.

The first time these two teams met, the Oilers coasted to an easy victory. Edmonton hosted Vegas back on November 14 and won by a final score of 8-2. Maxime Lagace started in net for Vegas, but Dylan Ferguson replaced him for the final ten minutes. Connor McDavid led the way with three points, but six other players had two points. Cam Talbot turned away twenty-two of twenty-four shots. If the Oilers can put together another all-around performance like this one, they will get another win.

Cam Talbot found himself pulled from last night’s game against the Coyotes, but I expect him to start on Saturday night. Talbot has not played as well as he did last season. He has allowed around 3.15 GAA and has a save percentage of .900. Talbot has put together some great games against tough opponents though. If he can do this again, the Oilers could have a shot at the upset.

Edmonton Oilers (+172) at Vegas Golden Knights (-191)

Marc-Andre Fleury will likely be in net for the Golden Knights. The Oilers will have their work cut out for them as scoring on Fleury is no easy task. Fleury has a save percentage of .945 and a 1.73 GAA in twelve games this season. The Oilers offense can be very strong, but even that may not be enough to beat Fleury.

The Golden Knights magical season has been led by many players. Jonathan Marchessault leads the team in points with forty, while William Karlsson leads in goals with twenty-two. Reilly Smith and David Perron have each scored at least thirty points. James Neal, Erik Haula, Alex Tuch and Collin Miller all have over twenty points. The Golden Knights can attack you from so many different places. Defending will not be an easy task for Edmonton.

Edmonton has been led by their superstar center, Connor McDavid. Even during their struggles, McDavid shined for the Oilers. He has fifty points on the season, fifteen of those are goals. Leon Draisaitl is second on the team with thirty-five points. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins leads the Oilers in goals with sixteen. Nugent-Hopkins has also added fifteen assists. The Oilers have the firepower, but they will need to use all of it on Saturday night.

Edmonton is listed as a huge underdog in this game, which makes them appealing. The Oilers are very similar to last year’s team that made a playoff run into the second round of the playoffs. That makes me believe that the Oilers are better than their record shows. If the Oilers can carry momentum from their victory against Arizona into this game, I think they have a real chance.
