San Jose Sharks vs Colorado Avalanche Predictions
The Colorado Avalanche have had a surprising amount of success this season. After finishing last place last season, the Avalanche have gone 28-19-4. Colorado sits in the sixth position in the Central Division. San Jose has gone 28-16-8 this season. While the Sharks have only four more points than the Avalanche, San Jose is in second place of the Pacific Division. San Jose is sitting more comfortably in a playoff position then Colorado, but the Avalanche are not out of playoff contention by any means.
San Jose visited Colorado back on January 18. The Avalanche jumped out to a 4-0 lead and managed to hold on for a 5-3 victory. Nathan MacKinnon scored two goals and had an assist. Mikko Rantanen had a goal and two assists for the Avalanche as well. Jonathan Bernier had forty-five saves on forty-eight shots for the Avalanche. The Sharks dominated the second half of this game. I expect the Sharks to jump out to a faster start this time around.
The Avalanche’s injury list has been beginning to pile up recently. Nathan MacKinnon is the biggest addition to the injury list. MacKinnon has an upper-body injury that will keep him out for two to four weeks. Sven Antighetto and Mark Barberio have no timetable for their returns. San Jose’s only injury is Joe Thornton. Thornton is in danger of missing the rest of the season after getting surgery on his knee. Martin Jones is expected to start for the Sharks on Tuesday night. Jones has played in a solid in net for San Jose this season. He has a save percentage of .913 and a GAA of 2.61. Martin Jones has gone 15-12-5 this season.
San Jose Sharks (-110) at Colorado Avalanche (+100)
Jonathan Bernier is going to be in net for the Avalanche on Tuesday night. Bernier has gone 15-9-2 this season. He has a .917 save percentage and a 2.68 GAA. Bernier dominated the Sharks last game, but I am not sure he can shut them down again.
Since the Avalanche’s ten game losing streak came to an end, Colorado has gone 1-3-1. With Nathan MacKinnon out of the lineup, the Avalanche are going to have some difficulty getting back on track. San Jose has won two straight after losing four in a row. The Sharks are on a much better trend then the Avalanche coming into Tuesday night’s matchup.
The money line for this game had the Sharks as a -116 earlier in the day. That number has since gone down to -110. I believe that this number is trending in the wrong direction. San Jose is a better team then the Avalanche. I believe that San Jose should be listed as a higher favorite. This makes San Jose an appealing pick to me.
