Dallas Stars vs Chicago Blackhawks Predictions
The Dallas Stars and Chicago Blackhawks have been going in completely opposite directions. Dallas has gone 31-19-4, which has placed them in fourth place of the Central Division. The Stars have won three games in a row. Chicago has gone 24-21-8 this season. The Blackhawks find themselves in seventh place of the Central Division. Chicago has lost three straight games.
This game will be the fourth and final game between the Stars and Blackhawks this season. All three of the prior matchups went to the Stars. Dallas won the first two games in overtime or a shootout. The Stars dominated the Blackhawks 4-0 in the third matchup.
Tyler Seguin has been the best player for the Stars against the Blackhawks. Seguin had two goals and two assists in the first three games. Patrick Kane, Nick Schmaltz, Connor Murphy and Ryan Hartman all have two points against the Stars. Ben Bishop was in net for all three of the Stars wins.
With Corey Crawford out, Anton Forsberg and Jeff Glass have been the Blackhawks goaltenders. Jeff Glass is expected to be in net for Chicago on Thursday night. Glass has struggled to maintain a rhythm, but his numbers are not doing terrible. He has a .908 save percentage and a 3.13 GAA. Glass will need to play a solid game in net for the Blackhawks to break this losing streak.
Dallas Stars (-123) at Chicago Blackhawks (+111)
Ben Bishop has been the go-to guy in Dallas, but he is expected to get some rest during Thursday night’s matchup. Kari Lehtonen, who has been a solid backup for the Stars, will likely get the start. He will be looking to sweep the Blackhawks in the season series. Lehtonen has a save percentage of .919 and a GAA of 2.22. I am not sure how well Lehtonen will be able to hold up against the Blackhawks.
Patrick Kane has been the best guy in Chicago this season. Kane has the team lead in goals, assists, and points. Kane has twenty-one goals and fifty-three points. Nick Schmaltz finds himself second on the team in points with thirty-nine. Jonathan Toews and Alex DeBrincat each have thirty-four points.
The Stars top line has been almost unstoppable. Alexander Radulov has fifty-one points, which leads the team. John Klingberg has fifty points, forty-four of those points are assists. Jamie Benn has forty-nine points. Tyler Seguin has twenty-six goals and forty-eight points. The Blackhawks will need to shut down those four guys if they want to pull away with a victory.
Chicago is an underdog in this game, but at home that makes the Blackhawks an appealing pick. Every NHL team experiences peaks and valleys throughout the season. Right now, the Stars are riding a winning streak, while the Blackhawks are stumbling. I believe the tides could turn in this game and the Blackhawks could end this losing streak. The NHL rarely sees divisional opponents sweep each other and I think the Blackhawks will avoid that fate on Thursday night.
